One of my favorite beers (and Michael Jackson's to!)........................ ross (2146) - weddington, North Carolina, USA - MAY 14, 2004
on tap at some diner in southern vermont. this is a brown ale? damn- that is news to me. i seriously thought this was an ipa. dark in color, hoppy smelling. hoppy taste, very bitter. goes down like an IPA, and i consumed it in large amounts like it was one. this was a damn fine beer that was the best beer i had on my trip. (although not the best i bought i believe). KariCupcake (214) - Lenox, Massachusetts, USA - JUN 25, 2005
The color of a good, deep tan that you have been working on all summer. Smells like beer perfume "honey hops". Smooth like beer air. Gregory (357) - Pullman, Washington, USA - MAY 13, 2002
Absolutely outstanding. I personally wouldn't classify this as a brown. It's quite floral and very well balanced. Starts sweet and malty, and ends with a nice bitterness. The way an ale should be. Well done! Hopistotle420 (1178) - Amherst, Massachusetts, USA - SEP 30, 2002
This is by far one of the best browns i've ever tasted. So simple, thats the key to McNeills brews. On tap at the brewery. Not overly sweet like most browns, SlopBucket kicks ya in the teeth with awesome bitters, long lingering hopped up finish. All this supported by a nice malt backbone. I love this brew, and this brewery is never disappointing, highly recommended.

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2005 Now here is a perfect brown ale. Perfect. Hopped to eliminate the boring/sluggish brown ale qualities that I find in most, yet nicely balanced to provide something more interesting than a dogfish IBA. Got 2 bombers to take home with me too. Nice. DocLock (10970) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 23, 2006
Muddy brown pour with minimal head. Aroma of caramel malt, big brown sugar, some nuts, figs, fruit. Tastes caramel malty, not sweet, with the figgy fruit, slight dark chocolate, and some hops. glaze0101 (79) - Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 13, 2007
Experience this on tap, much better than the bottle, IMO. medium brown with a thin head smooth and slightly bitter. Volgon (2763) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 13, 2002
UPDATED: JUN 24, 2005 On tap Boston Beer Summit ’02: Heavy hops aroma, creamy body, with a color somewhere between black and ruby. The huge amounts of hops in this create an aftertaste that goes on and on. I need to find some bottles of this. Top 3 (IMHO) at the BBS ’02. egajdzis (6692) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 16, 2004
Poured a ruby red raspberry color with a small off white head and nice lacing. huge aroma of sweet caramel and toffee, wood, nuts, malt, and a nice floral hoppiness. Subdued roasted malt balanced a hop finish. Now this is my new favorite brown, certainly beats the summer brown.
