3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Has a sour ale type aroma. Lighter body than expected. Caramel and roasted flavor. Not much hops in this bottle. That sour cherry aroma really throws me.
Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a gusher of a head again. I lost count of how many fingers I could use to align to the foaminess to equate to the size of the head. Lace was strewn about like a bunch of ducks on a pond.
The aroma had the apple cider vinegar sour quality bold and up front with eye popping red wine tones.
The flavor brought the same sour and claimed the aftertaste and finish in the same sort of manner.
The feel was between light and medium bodied. No signs of sessionability about this. My tongue was fairly singed by the last one.
Overall, not sure what else to say. But if anything I am a bit sad a brewery of my own state is slipping. cheap (5888) - Beaver Valley, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 22, 2015
On tap at the pub. I really like this mug of beer. Smell is quite neutral and the look is darker brown. Some co2 carries you thru. Mild and fun, easy a reserved. Nice stuff. Not bad! A simple friendly enjoyable brew with a tad of roasty impressions and ever so slight bitterness. God job McNeill. hivemind (916) - New York, New York, USA - NOV 25, 2012
Tap @ Fete Sau w Erica last night. Blood red and brownish pour, negligible off-white head. Aroma is somewhat malty and not much else to notice. Palate is sweet, a little nutty - very non-descript for a brown. Medium to heavy mouthfeel that only serves to amplify the void where I’d expect the nuts, chcocolate, spices to be. This one is aptly named. DalzAle (2037) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - DEC 11, 2011
Bottle shared by portableparty! Dark brown pour, a little carbonation and a slightly hoppy nose. Flavor was super hot peppery booze, malt and herbs. Way more a barleywine than a brown ale, and decent overall. i would buy this. portableparty (2362) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - DEC 11, 2011
Bottle to snifter. Pours clear mahogany color with a off white soapy head that fades to a thin collar. Aroma is roasted burnt malt and has a coco vanilla scent. Taste is malty and boozey with faint pepper and chocolate. Palate is thin and fizzy with a warm dry finish.

Tap at the brewpub. Deep brown beer with a thin white head. Aroma is lightly nutty and malty with some light caramel and toast. Herbal and quite light smelling. Low bitterness with a very light sweetness. Kind of a watery brew and not all that great. shintriad (701) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 11, 2008
Verry hoppy Cascade-y in a cloudy body, persistent tiny bubbles, thin whitish head. Very dry, little malts for a brown, a bit minerally, mild aftertaste. dmac (6315) - Toms River, New Jersey, USA - APR 26, 2008
Wow. What the Fuck??? My third infected McNeills brew in a row. Seriously it’s called quality control, get some.
