Our first formulation of this beer was the first UK brewed beer to carry the Fairtrade logo, and although we have reformulated it to create an even better blend better the malt and roast coffee flavours and can no longer get enough coffee in each bottle to qualify for Fairtrade status, we are still using the same Faitrade Araba Bourbon beans from Rwandas Abuhuzamugambi Co-operative. At the Meantime Brewing Co we love flavour, so it wasnt exactly difficult for us to see how the scents and aromas of coffee and barley would create a perfect match like just like mint and lamb, toffee and banana, peaches and cream, peanut butter and jam. Serve lightly chilled with as many chocolate truffles as your conscience allows.

A pitch black beer with a slight reddish shine when held against a light source, witha dense brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of both coffee and chocolate - with the bitterness that both both bring. The flavor is sweet yet bitter - the bitterness coming from the coffee, which also lends notes of chocolate - dark bitter desert chocolate, more than coming from the hops and the dark roasted malt. But the flavor also has notes of roasted malt and rye bread. The bitterness makes the end dry, and the coffee notes lingers for a long time. Nice.

Bottled. Dark ruby red/black colour with mediumsized white head. Aroma is roasted coffee beans. Flavour is roasted coffee beans with some slight acidic sour hints. In some kind of perverse way I like this very much.

(Bottle 33 cl) Clear, dark brown - close to black - with a vague tint of orange. Has a small, creamy, beige head. Distinct aroma of coffee and ashes - or perhaps rather ashtray. Medium body with very, very burned malt accents, but again closer to ashes than to coffee. Theres an underlying tartness in there - probably from the malt. The bitterness in the finish is surprisingly discreet. Not completely pleasant. 280607

Bottled. Very dark brown, small head. Rich coffee aroma. Dryish, roasty and medium bodied with lots of coffee flavour. A straight forward beer in the same style as the Czech Dum Kvov.

Although made with coffee its vanilla and chocolate that are immediately noticeable. Mellow coffee then makes itself known in the finish. Sumptuous and unique!

Black color, thin head. Clean aroma, American coffee (no malt nor anything else). Same for the taste. Not bad, but its not really a beer, seems more like a carbonated coffee.
