Our first formulation of this beer was the first UK brewed beer to carry the Fairtrade logo, and although we have reformulated it to create an even better blend better the malt and roast coffee flavours and can no longer get enough coffee in each bottle to qualify for Fairtrade status, we are still using the same Faitrade Araba Bourbon beans from Rwandas Abuhuzamugambi Co-operative. At the Meantime Brewing Co we love flavour, so it wasnt exactly difficult for us to see how the scents and aromas of coffee and barley would create a perfect match like just like mint and lamb, toffee and banana, peaches and cream, peanut butter and jam. Serve lightly chilled with as many chocolate truffles as your conscience allows.

Bottle 370ml. Poured dark ruby with an averaged sized, dense, frothy, beige head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was dominated by instant coffee and coco powder with toasted malts, dusty carob chocolate, caramel, currents, earthy/woody notes and hints of nuts. Flavor was a light earthy hop bitterness with roasted malts, toast, coco powder, chocolate coated coffee beans, carob chocolate and a dry finish. Well hidden alcohol content. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, a dry toasty mouthfeel and a good length finish.

As a whole, the English tend not to be as intense with coffee infusion as we are across the pond. While I love tasting lots of roasted bean in the glass, sometimes a lighter touch is good. Meantimes Coffee Porter pours brown and shows a reddish hue when held to direct light. It has a lovely fresh coffee aroma thats earthy, fruity, and (thanks to the Arabica Bourbon beans) a bit boozy. The coffee notes are more mild in the flavor but you wont forget its there. The Porter base is extremely tasty, too. Some chocolate and vanilla flavors coming out of the roasted barley. Feel is rich and creamy. Hard to beat this as an after-dinner option.
