dmctaster (95) - Florida, USA - NOV 24, 2016
Brown with a khaki head. Aroma of chocolate malts, slight cranberries, and coffee. Taste is sweet from the cranberries and aftertaste is bitter stout. Would be better as a sour ale.

750 ml bottle on sale for $2.99 at Supermarket Liquors, listed at 6.0%. Deep, dark reddish brown and clear appearance with a tiny tan head, mostly diminishing. Aroma of cranberries, chocolate and dark malts, with hints of toffee, caramel, roast and coffee. Similar flavor, mostly fruity and sweet, with not enough malt to balance it out. Minimal bitterness as well. The body is pretty light, kind of watery and thin. Meh.

Draft at the new barley corn which just opened in NYC. Deep black color. Very light body with a sweet malty tartness to it. Eh

draft at Blue Monk, Honestly not that bad, chalky chocolate with underlaying cranberry flavor. medium mouthfeel. OK

Draft. Dark pour, it honeslty isn’t the worst, oxidized waxy cranberry nose, flavor is tart but chocolatey, not offensive to me but it looks like it gets some hate.

Serving: 750 ml. bottle. It pours a very dark brown with ruby highlights. Plenty of cranberry in the nose with a very light roasted malt note. There is plenty of tart cranberry on the tongue. Rather thin and flimsy body with very little roasted malt and a hint of nuttiness. There is very little to the stout side of this brew. I was expecting a little more from this.

Julie says that the cranberry makes it overwhelming taste like a lambic. It's watery for a stout. Julie gives a 1.8 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml bottle into pint glass; bottled on 9/6/2013, 6% ABV listed. Pours crystal clear very dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, toast, cranberry, brown bread, light roast, raisin, plum, fig, herbal, and toast/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, cranberry, and fruity/earthy yeast ester notes; with decent strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, cranberry, toast, brown bread, light roast, raisin, plum, fig, herbal, and toast/yeast earthiness. Light fruity tartness/earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, cranberry, toast, brown bread, light roast, raisin, plum, fig, herbal, and toast/yeast earthiness on the finish fora short bit. Nice complexity and balance of dark/bready malt, cranberry, and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; with solid robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/acidic mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very solid fruited stout. Good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, cranberry, and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. I was expecting much more robustness from malt flavors for a 6% stout; but it was an enjoyable offering.

Bottle split with DiarmaidBHK - pours pitch with a white head. I’m getting plenty of the tart cranberries, but it’s completely overwhelming the stout. Drinkable, but unbalanced.
