Helles is the German word for ‘light’ as in light colour, and this golden coloured beer is typified by a refreshing piney, citrus hop aroma sitting atop a predominantly light malt accented palate.
The hop aromas and delicate malt flavours work together in perfect balance to produce a refreshing beer with a clean, crisp finish. The Hallertaur hop does all its work on the nose, meaning this is a beer with very low bitterness. An ideal companion to roast pork, light seafood pasta, goats cheese salad, or an apricot tatin.

Superbeer (1) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - DEC 18, 2012 does not count
My favourite British pale lager. Very easy to drink. Lively carbonation with great hoppy palate (Hallertau, I suppose).

From [email protected] Market Porter, London. A finger of dense blond head, upon a clear, shiny gold colored body. Superfresh aroma. Dry and crisp bready malt. Citrussy, floral and grassy hops. Clean and crisp malt body. Fresh lemony fruitiness. Grass and citrus from the hops. Well-bodied. Finishes dry and fruity with a nice hop twang. Utterly refreshing. Spot on! The best Helles I’ve had.

On tap at Evening Star, Brighton on 31 May 2010. Pale gold with thin partly lacing white head. Rich hop notes with a slightly nutty, savoury aroma on top of them. Main hop kick is lemon-citric and slightly grassy with an earthy pungency. Clean and refreshing. The finish is fairly short lived. Zingy, lively mouthfeel.

Leighton (22820) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 18, 2011
Keg at the White Horse, Exchange Square. Clear, yellow-gold pour with a modest, white head. Some cereal on the nose. Lightly sweet flavor with some grains and light floral bitterness. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Has a faintly crisp finish, some sunkissed malts. A decent beer that could use a few tweaks.

JoeinDahlem (1604) - Berlin, GERMANY - SEP 23, 2009
Draft at the Fox & Anchor in London. Deep golden color with thinnish white head. Lightly sourish cereal nose, hops almost undetectable in aroma. Crisp, nicely bitter, and very lively... possibly overcarbonated but not unpleasantly so. More nutty cereals in backdrop. Nice dry, bitter finish. Refreshing and highly drinkable.

RoyceH (1200) - Hesperange, LUXEMBOURG - AUG 13, 2007
Cask, Market Porter. Clear yellow with thin white head. Citrus hop, some malt. Quite fruity and "cloudy" smell. Mouth is quite carbonated, sweet malt and some grain. Lasts grainy and nondescript.

altonbrownd (5897) - Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA - JUN 17, 2010
Cask at Bridge House. Bright gold yellow with slight head. Corny nose. Taste of corn, wheat, hops. Prickly. Pretty good.

On tap somewhere just the other side of Tower Hill! Sharp dry lager with a distinct buttery flavour.
