Meantime Brew Master, Alastair Hook, has spent 20 years planning the quintessential English lager. His reasoning is simple. The great European lager brewers use very soft water and neutral yeasts to ensure that only the flavours of their locally grown malt and hops come to the fore. East Anglia is home to the world’s finest malting barley and Kent is home to some of the world’s best hops. Midway between the two, London is ideally placed to bring them together in a straightforward, clean, long-matured, unpasteurised lager, where all you can taste is malt and hop.

Bottle at the Crown Rivers, Heathrow airport, 20.4.16. Clear gold with a white head. Fresh crisp aroma of cut grass and hay with some minerals, crispy bitterness with good malty notes. Light-bodied, well-balanced, light malty finish.

330ml bottle @ JDW Montgomery’s Tower, Shrewsbury. Pours clear gold, white head. Nice sweet malt aroma, light noble hops. Taste is smooth, clean with a light lemon sweetness behind some bready malts. Decent lager.

Sjohnh (947) - Coventry, West Midlands, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2016
Typical lager colour, with a white head that has gone after a minute or so. Light palette, highly carbonated. Little aroma, mostly grain. Slightly sweet, dry finish. Not convinced I’d pick this from a commercial pale lager in a blind test.

Block (2727) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - APR 26, 2016
This is a regular ’premium lager’. Sweet, light, corn, grass. Not too much more than that.

LazyPyro (1210) - Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 1, 2016
UPDATED: APR 17, 2016 330ml bottle. Pale golden colour with a thin white head, disappears fast. Aroma is light malt, grains, hay, fruity notes. Taste is pale malts, hops, light citrus notes. Low bitterness. For a lager it’s pretty good.

oliodnb (662) - ITALY - MAR 1, 2016
33cl bottle. Pours clear golden, minimal white head. Aroma is light, some malts, quite bland. Taste is pretty bad, some malts again, feels like a random industrial lager. Unpleasant aftertaste. Disappointing.

Pale appearance. Carbonation added to taste. Bready taste. Good strength and fair on palate. Would love to try a pint. All in all not bad.

thellgren (1062) - Helsinki, FINLAND - DEC 22, 2015
pint draught @ Greenwich Union, London. Light amber colour, no head. Great hoppy taste with malts coming through not too much. Everything is in balance. Great beer!
