Meantime Brew Master, Alastair Hook, has spent 20 years planning the quintessential English lager. His reasoning is simple. The great European lager brewers use very soft water and neutral yeasts to ensure that only the flavours of their locally grown malt and hops come to the fore. East Anglia is home to the world’s finest malting barley and Kent is home to some of the world’s best hops. Midway between the two, London is ideally placed to bring them together in a straightforward, clean, long-matured, unpasteurised lager, where all you can taste is malt and hop.

Looks like a lager, quite light and nice short white head. Smell has some hint of iron. Hmm, I’m not sure if that is good sign. Taste is light, too watery I would say. Aroma has basement, with tiny bit of sugar on top. This beer fails to be pleasing because it does made to be too mediocore.

Keg. Pours pale golden with a nice white foam. Scent is bog standard lager. Taste is consistent. Pale malt. Clean water. Fine.

Bue à la pression. Blonde dorée limpide. Lager plutôt bien faite. Effervescence moyenne Grain principalement, s’éteint très vite .

Bottle from the Caley Picture House. Appearance - golden with a decent lacy head. Nose - big cooked vegetable note on opening. Some honey and cereal notes too. Taste - more of the expected lager notes, dry citrus at the back. Palate - light bodied with a long lean middle section that continues through the finish. Overall - this refreshed which is all you necessarily should demand from a lager.

Pours a very pale colour. Taste is slightly malty. Some sucrose syrupy taste and quite watery. Not great

Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Pours pale straw with almost no head. Lively fizz and clear in colour. Taste bland with malt-forward balance. Aroma predominantly hay, sawdust and slight earthy notes.

AJL1980 (121) - West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - DEC 9, 2016
Bottle from Morrisons. Bought in error as thought was pale ale. Ah well! Nice enough lager and easy to drink. Pours very light amber. Tastes like a cross between lager and craft beer.

3.1
Delirium (669) - Falmouth, Cornwall, ENGLAND - DEC 4, 2016
Bottle. Pours bubbly clear yellow with a moderate, fast disappearing white head. Aroma is malt and straw. Flavor is somewhat malty and sweet, with grass and straw notes, and a slightly hoppy finish. Not bad for the style.

2.3
sarauckelman (532) - Durham, Durham, ENGLAND - NOV 27, 2016
Clear light yellow with no head. No aroma. Slightly musty/dirty lager flavor, slightly bitter aftertaste. Not very special.

1.8
uckelman (790) - Durham, ENGLAND - NOV 27, 2016
Very pale yellow. Not much head. Aroma is grass, bubblegum, maybe a hint of banana. Medium body. Barely any flavor at all. A bit mineral on the finish, but that’s pretty much all that’s here.
