COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Avaailable on Keg and in 750ml bottles.
George Washington was a big fan of imported English Porter. By 1769 he'd lost his taste for British beers. After all, it was keeping the Redcoats fighting. Our Porter is based on a recipe from 1750. We bring you the original aromas and flavours of the beer that made London the world's brewing capital, flavours we know Washington would have loved. Time, care and attention have enabled us to produce a blend of beers bringing you the flavour of the 1750's. Share this beer with friends and enjoy with barbeques, fish or shellfish. The ruby colour & bottle conditioning are proof of its heritage and authenticity.

This porter poured a deep black colour with a creamy, tan coloured head. Nice lacing. Scents include plastic, malt, small amount of coffee and cocoa. First swig was nice and roasty with other flavours of coffee, light hops and very little cocoa. Finish is roasted as it gets...

Bottle at the Cerise Bar, Reading. Deep ruby with a thin beige head. Smoke, fruit and chocolate in the whiff. On first taste its pleasantly smoky and chocolatey; on further tastes this turns to sweet and rather fake chocolate and coffee, rather like a Quality Street coffee cream. Theres a hint of rubber in the background to and its rather thin. Like many Meantime brews its OK but fails to deliver its full potential. Which is a bit of a shame given how expensive it was in this bar- not a place Id ever normally choose myself, but as it was a friends birthday I had little choice in the matter.

Sample from a 750ml bottle, thanks to the Pivoteka guys. Brownish body. Smells like mead really, fermented honey, dark malt, oily. Light soft taste, mead-like again in a way (so, notes of fermented honey), soft malty backbone, dry finish. OK. Not thrilling, not world shattering but a solid beer.

375ml bottle, on sale at my local for a whopping $2.50. Brown pour with a slight light tan head. Nose is roasted malt. Taste is pretty good, light body with a large amount of roasted, burnt and slightly smoked malt. Finishes dry with a malty bitterness.

UPDATED: JUN 18, 2016 Beautiful appearance. Nice thick foam which dissipates rather quickly. Pours a very dark brown which is clear. Aroma is complex, lots of dark malts and quite spicy. Some biscuit and chocolate aromas and a herbal earthy note. Mouthfeel is pleasant and rather thick, medium body and carbonation. Flavour is similar to aroma: complex and malty, with plenty of dark malts. Has a very pleasant hoppy-herbal and earthy note which I really enjoy. Chocolate is pronounced. The bitterness is very nicely balanced with the maltiness, brilliant balance overall. Brilliant beer, one of the best porters I?ve had, pretty much defines the London porter in my opinion.

Deep amber colour, fluffy head. Sadly the whole batch seems to have survived an earthquake so pouring was quite some task. Very prominent alcohol note, chocolate, sweet malt. Very pleasant after work draft.

Originally rated on 8/1/08. It poured a deep mohagany, amber when held up to light, with a thick tan head. There wasnt much aroma to speak of. The flavor was overwhelming of alcohol i couldnt believe that it was only 6.5%, the other flavors were cherries, roasted malt, caramel and a little chocolate, but the alcohol drowned them out. If it wasnt for that i would have rated it higher.
