"Meantime’s London Stout is very much an old London beer as it would be made today."

500ml bottle at home cellar cool. Black pudding and licquorice aroma, (seriously)! Dark ruby body, tan head. dark chocolate, figs, cold coffee flavours, dry biscuity finish. Slick palate. Enough carbonation to provide a tasty "burp memory". What’s not to like? Is this a "Schwarzbier" because of the lagering? More stouty bitterness evident.

August 2017 - 330ml bottle at home in Richmond as ’Meantime London Stout’, 4.5%, BB Oct 2018. Opaque black, foamy light brown head. Aroma is milky, light lactose, milk chocolate, bourbon biscuit. Body is frothy, tingly carbonation. Taste is a touch thin, light metallics, bourbon biscuits, soft bitterness, little yeasty. Not fussed on this one. Perhaps it was better before Meantime went macro. It’s OK, and it’s cheap. (6-4-4-3-12=2.9)

330ml bottle. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Nose is roasted malt, brown bread, cherry, milk chocolate and a touch of coffee. Light mouth feel, more like a dark lager or Schwarzbier. Taste is light roasted malt, milk chocolate and some coffee. Refreshing and very drinkable. Tasty.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown colour with a thin beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruits, some liquorice, slight coffee, a little chocolate and subtle cardboard. Taste of roasted malts, dark fruits, some dark berries, slight liquorice, a hint of coffee and subtle wet cardboard. Light bodied, moderate carbonation but a watery texture. A dry, roasted bitterness in the finish. Was expecting a stout but it does show more characteristics of a schwarzbier. Roasted malts and spicy fruit but with a subtle cardboard taste you get from lagers. It’s not unpleasant but the body’s watery. Below average.

Bottle. Dark Brown with Reddish tinge. Overly carbonated - looks & mouthfeel like Coca-Cola. Strong coffee aroma. Malty; roast malts, bitter coffee, liquorice, dark chocolate, caramel. Sour fruity (berries). Quite thin; lacks body. Roast malty throughout with sour bitter edge. Long dry roasty aftertaste. (2009-05)

Sehr schokoladiger und karamelliger Geruch. Geschmack nach dunklen Beeren und Aschenbecher.

Idiosynkrasie (7612) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - JAN 20, 2017
500ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with small to average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Roasty, dark malty aroma, hints of coffee, underlying, cautious hints of blueberry. Taste is roasty dark malty, slightly bitter, subtle sweetness, fruity hints of blueberry and bramble; minimally metallic finish.

Bottle - dark with small tan head. Strong citrus - vanilla aroma. Slight ting in mouth, good chocolate taste with bitter finish. Bit watery consistency - not thick and creamy - better when initial fizz fades.

gueuze (956) - - OCT 22, 2016
Dunkel, ganz leicht rötlich. Geruch nach dunklen Beeren. Im Geschmack dann Aschenbecher und Johannisbeeren. Bitter zum Ende.

BeerNinjaUK (516) - Wiltshire, ENGLAND - OCT 6, 2016
Bottle from Waitrose. Pours rich dark brown, the body looks like Coke, but with a bubbly beige head. Aroma is weak and somewhat flat, with some wheat, coffee, also a bit of earth and cardboard (although not unpleasant). Rather watery in texture. Somewhat refreshing for a stout.
