(Bottle) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, smoky nose with notes of rye bread, dried fruit, smoke, orange peel and a slight acidity. Malty, smoky taste with rye bread, honey, smoke, a touch of tar, red fruit and a gentle spicy bitterness. A slight acidity coming through. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Quite balanced smokiness and quite well balanced. A slight acidity is a bit disturbing. Quite enjoyable. bhensonb (15756) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 5, 2015
750 c&c from Corti Brothers. Pours hazy copper with a yellow/beige head. Aroma of smoke, sweet malt and medium dark fruits. Full bodied or nearly. Flavor is moderately smoky with some sweet treacly malt and something like fig or date. Yet it’s rather fresh tasting considering the flavors. Tends to thin with time, and a little ash shows up, but it’s a very alluring ale. high_on_hops (809) - Burlingame, California, USA - MAR 8, 2015
On tap. Pours a hazy, deep brown with a tan head. The aroma is toasty malt and some coffee and chocolate, with a flavor of smokey malt and a semisweet finish over a medium body.

Aroma is caramel, toffee, malts and a hint of vague barley wine qualities. The flavor is toffee, smoked malts, lacking in carbonation/alcohol which detracts from the body, mild sweetness and a malty/caramel finish. Somewhat strange, the lack of carbonation is what is expected with a much stronger alcohol content, thus leaving it decent but mildly disjointed.

Bottle of the 6% variant from Marks & Spencer, Watford. Poured a bright ruby colour with a thin, tight off white head. Aroma of cloves, berries and iodine. Smoked malt dominates the initial flavour with notes of brown sugar and spice. Finish was toasted malt, caramel and Christmas cake. Rather liked this. rauchbier (3933) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - DEC 29, 2013
Bottle, 6% version from Marks & Spencers, Grimsby. Chestnut brown, thin shortlived off white head and moderate condition. Gentle sweet burnt toffee and a muted woody smokiness in the nose, slightly chalky in the mouth with the woodsmoke notes slightly more dominant over a now subdued toffee sweetness, finish has a low sweet smoky bitterness lingering briefly.
