3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle, cellar aged for about 1.5 years. Sweet, malty aroma, some dark brown sugar, faint smoke, peat, darkly toasted malt, seaweed/brine and burnt caramel. Dark amber in color, tea-like in appearance, with a very fine head. Dark brown sugar sweetness permeates the flavor profile, more peat/smoky aspects here, as well as some earthy, herbal tones and sweet, warming alcohol towards the finish. Rich and full on the palate, low in effervescence, body is very full. Nice!
Bottle shared by Tmoney99 (I think) from notes. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, dark fruit, raisins, dates, mild earthy notes, hint of chocolate, better than I expected. Autonetics1969 (10) - - DEC 28, 2015
English malt nose amber to red such reports clear pour. Very smooth malty beer with earthy hops. koleminer20 (4171) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - JUL 4, 2015
750 mL bottle. The pour is a darker ruby tinted brown with a thin frothy white head and some decent lacing left on the glass. The aroma is malty and very typically scotch ale. I love the caramel and the malts. It's light and there is a little booze but still good. The flavor is very similar. There is a ton of caramel and malt up front that moves through a nice solid malt profile out the back. The mouth feel is thinner but pretty good. The aftertaste is lingeringly malty and caramelish. This makes me think of Dirty Bastard a lot, but I just think DB is a bit better. Not bad though

his was recommended by a trusted friend, though I then balked at the $12 price tag. I gotta say, it’s pretty much what I think the style should taste like. Sweet, a little peat, toffee, chocolate, tobacco. Nice rich, full feel. A little bubbly, but swirling made it near perfect. 8% just right, warm not hot, full and sweet w/o being cloying. Ever so slight hints, and only hints, of astringency make this just short of elite. Still thoroughly enjoyed." Niko100 (3012) - Chicago, New York, USA - AUG 15, 2014
Dark amber/cider color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of toasted/smoky sweet malt, caramel, & dark fruit; Flavor of smoky sweet malt, caramel, toffee, and dark fruit (notably plums); Nicely balanced; Nice. fishonmyplane (505) - Newington, Connecticut, USA - JUN 14, 2014
Quite a malty brew with lots of British character. Toffee, bread, caramel, some creme brulee. Just a quick pinch of smoke up-front. Really well-done, smooth and balanced, not too sweet. Sessionable although the alcohol will sneak up on you.
