COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
330ml bottles and Keg. Formerly known as Meantime Vienna. Also includes Cascade hops as well as those mentioned below.
100 years ago Pilseners, Müncheners and Viennese lagers formed a trio of major lager styles brewed in central Europe. Gradually the lighter Pilseners swept all before them and Vienna style beers fell into an undeserved decline.
Traditional Bavarian Perle and Spalter hops and delicately coloured malts produce a deep copper coloured beer with a firm fruity caramel aroma, a smooth complex malt character and a long crisp clean finish. This beer is slow fermented and cold-matured over long periods to ensure perfect balance and gentle natural carbonation. Union goes with bread and wheat based foods such as pizza and pasta or more mid-weight dishes like duck or noodle stir-fry.

Sigmund (7535) - Tau, NORWAY - NOV 28, 2011
330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Vika. ABV is 4.9%. Amber colour, large head, slightly off-white. Strong sweetish aroma of malts and stale orange marmalade. The flavour is not too sweet, biscuity and hoppy notes, hints of caramel and some fruit. Not too bad, but I think Meantime preferably should stick to ales.

chriso (7533) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 3, 2006
Draught at Brew Wharf, Southwark, London. Bright. mid brown colour. Some debate about what style this was. Seems our gbest guess of Vienna was right. Plenty of dry malt on the nose and palate. Straightforward but pleasant enough.

A Mes rate: Keg at the Market Porter.
Dark amber brown with a thin white head. Big sweet caramel malt and a none too great tobacco finish. Very dull, Meantime can do a lot better than this.

larsniclas (7077) - Billdal, SWEDEN - JAN 27, 2007

Draft at the Brew Wharf. (Also tasted bottled) Dark red lager. Lots of barley flavour, very rich, a hint of plums. Cascade hops give a crisp finish.

jaghana (6070) - Strasbourg (Alsace), FRANCE - OCT 13, 2011
Bottle 33cl, a clear amber beer with good creamy head. Nose is very malty, toasted with acrid notes. Aroma is caramel like, dry, malty, quite hopy for the style, lot of vienna malt a bit acrid notes, not bad but less round to be really great.

3.4
