COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
330ml bottles and Keg. Formerly known as Meantime Vienna. Also includes Cascade hops as well as those mentioned below.
100 years ago Pilseners, Müncheners and Viennese lagers formed a trio of major lager styles brewed in central Europe. Gradually the lighter Pilseners swept all before them and Vienna style beers fell into an undeserved decline.
Traditional Bavarian Perle and Spalter hops and delicately coloured malts produce a deep copper coloured beer with a firm fruity caramel aroma, a smooth complex malt character and a long crisp clean finish. This beer is slow fermented and cold-matured over long periods to ensure perfect balance and gentle natural carbonation. Union goes with bread and wheat based foods such as pizza and pasta or more mid-weight dishes like duck or noodle stir-fry.

larsga (7675) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 15, 2007
Medium beige head. Deep dark red body. Sweet malty licorice aroma. Dry-sweet delicate roasty licorice malt taste with fruity notes. Very clear, distinct roasty notes in the taste, these are really what makes the beer. Sweet roasty malt aftertaste. (0.5pt draft at Greenwich Union.)

chriso (7536) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 3, 2006
Draught at Brew Wharf, Southwark, London. Bright. mid brown colour. Some debate about what style this was. Seems our gbest guess of Vienna was right. Plenty of dry malt on the nose and palate. Straightforward but pleasant enough.

larsniclas (7285) - Billdal, SWEDEN - JAN 27, 2007
Draught at BrewWharf, London, UK Dark amber, small off-white head. Some light aroma from figs and prunes. A bit thin but fresh with some toffee-flavour.

MesandSim (7117) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 28, 2008
A Mes rate: Keg at the Market Porter.
Dark amber brown with a thin white head. Big sweet caramel malt and a none too great tobacco finish. Very dull, Meantime can do a lot better than this.

Aroma: weird nose. Appearance: amber/orange, small white head. Taste: light bitter. Palate: malty bitterness, medium carbonation. Overall: mediocre lager. Pint at the Meantime Brewery, London.

Draft at the Brew Wharf. (Also tasted bottled) Dark red lager. Lots of barley flavour, very rich, a hint of plums. Cascade hops give a crisp finish.

mkel07 (6546) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - NOV 20, 2009
330ml bottle. Large dense tan blanket of foam that sist atop a base of deep dark brown and copper coloured liquid. Aroma of malt and hops that fills the nose. Tasty with a dry finish that lingers in the mouth. Refreshing and enjoyable.

3.3
jaghana (6363) - Strasbourg (Alsace), FRANCE - OCT 13, 2011
Bottle 33cl, a clear amber beer with good creamy head. Nose is very malty, toasted with acrid notes. Aroma is caramel like, dry, malty, quite hopy for the style, lot of vienna malt a bit acrid notes, not bad but less round to be really great.

3.4
DutchDrebus (6323) - Oirschot, NETHERLANDS - MAY 21, 2014
Bottle @ joes. Amber colour, small off-white head. Smells malty, caramel, some hops, sweetish. Tastes sweet, caramel, slightly iron. Thin to medium body, soft to medium carbo.
