Keg (5.9%) at The Mitre, near Lancaster Gate. It pours clear deep brown with a medium off-white head. The nose is pretty sweet, syrupy, caramel, chewy malt, brown sugars and dried fruits. The taste is bitter-sweet, toffee, dried fruits, toasted brown sugars, some earthy roast, cola and cardboard with a dry, sweetish finish. Medium body, average and sticky mouth-feel. A bit sweet and one-dimensional. OK I suppose.

50 cl bottle @ Home. Rated on 21.01.2011
Aroma is somewhat malty with roastiness, some coffee and chocolate. Flavour is also somewhat malty with coffee, chocolate and hints of nuts. The bottle says that this is ale. A porter or a schwartzbier? I cannot tell.

500ml Bottle conditioned beer, best before 25 Nov 2010, drank and reviewed on 10 Nov 2010, 15 days before it became old! Poured carefully into an Abbot Ale tankard. No sediment appeared to get into the glass, so the dark, dark ruby red body was clear when held up to a strong light source. On top sat a tan coloured foaming head. Intence malty, rich, peaty smelling aroma hit the nose. The taste was a mild smokey maltiness, from the smoked malts mentioned on the rear of the label no doubt. The malt flavours stay in the mouth, but a hop bitterness appeared as the beer left the throat and sank into my body. Well carbonated and not as creamy or rich as some Winter Warming Porters Ive had, but very pleasant never-the-less. Easy to drink and ideal on a cold winters evening.

[4184-20111210] 500mL bottle. Mild wintery toasted grains aroma. Clear, dark amber body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Mild bandaid grains flavour has a lot of peaty leaf mould. Medium body. Tasty, mild English feel to it. (7/3/6/4/14) 3.4

2011-12-10. Crisp light brown body with a nice beige head. 3+ Lightly spicy, modest malt aroma, hints at caramel? Similar flavour, light spice, nice modest malt character has muted accents of caramel or toffee, perhaps chestnuts if you look for it. Average plus bodied palate. Its a touch light for a winter warmer, my overall impression is that this is better suited for a wintery English pub night on cask, but remains pretty enoyable. Bottle shared by Tuqueboy
