500 ml bottle. Clear reddish-brown color, tan head. Sweet, spicy aroma. Nutmeg? Nutty flavor with syrupy notes. Medium body, medium carbonation. Not bad.

Intriguing fruity spicy nose on this chestnut brown ale. Chocolate, cinnamon and a hint of smoke. At first sweet chestnut and a hint of vanilla, with a slight acrid chocolate bitter malt and long fruity finish

Bottle from Theatre of Wine, Greenwich. Reddish-brown pour with a beige head. Smoke and fresh tobacco aroma with a hint of raisin. Chocolate, smoke and some coffee flavours. Roasty, smoky-dry finish.

BeerCast_Rich (1906) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAY 25, 2011
[500ml bottle, Sainsbury’s, Bethnal Green] Dark brown beer with a thin white head, which reduces quickly. Deep, roasty chocolate aromas. On the taste, plenty of toasted chocolate malt. Touch of smoke in there as well. Gets sweet after a while, with some vanilla notes, before the bitter finish. Good winter warmer [13122007]

Koelschtrinker (20248) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 13, 2011
11/11/11/10/13/11

Didn’t know this was classed as a Schwarzbier until saw it categorised here, but that is pretty much right, although as one would expect with a Winter bottled ale it has a bit more flavour and complexity than the average German Black Beer. Roasted malt aroma, chocolate, coffee undercurrents and smoky fires in the flavour. Some sweet caramel and subtle bitterness on the finish. Really nice drinkable Winter Ale.

Bottle - Very dark. Tan head. Roasted malts. Sweet and fruity at first followed by loads of smoke/ash and coal tar. Low to medium bitterness.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Pleasant beer with subtle coffee and smoky notes. Some subtle sweetness, certainly no bitterness. Alright.
