Quite a bit of vanilla in the nose, with roasty malt and a little bubblegum. Nearly opaque orangish dark brown with no top. Quite roasty--even a bit burnt flavour, with vanilla and a little wood smoke. Moderate sweetness in good balance with bitterness. Medium body, slightly bitter finish, moderate carbonation. Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Not a true winter ale in any respect. Too light in both colour and palette. In its own right it’s not a bad beer but there’s always the feeling that something’s lacking. Smoky aroma, touch of roasted malt bitterness and residual sweetness. They’re a better brewer than this undistinguished showing.. Chrism86 (294) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JUN 13, 2009
Pours dark brown with a small head. Nose has alot of chocolate and sweeter, smokey malt notes. Palate transaltes well, more choc with mild coffee and a very slight smoked malt character. Overall, a pretty straightforward beer, nothing overly inspiring, given the choice i’d much rahter go for their london porter.

500ml bottle. Thick black colour with a tan foam head of big bubbles. Medium bodied with an aroma of chocolate and coffee that invites you in . Bitter and tart in a good way. Burnt chocolate taste, light in the mouth and not as thick tasting as it looks. beervis (243) - Taylor’s Country, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - MAY 14, 2009
light, sweetish and slightly spicy with a little warming alcohol, not sure I’d rate it as a stout though. slips down a treat on a chilly night. okay. bluevegie (3938) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAY 11, 2009
Dark bown body with a small head. Light roasted malt aroma, thin in the taste, a little sweet and nothing really standing out for me. MitchWayne (263) - Kokkola, FINLAND - APR 17, 2009
Smoky roasty and sweet stout with a bitter finnish. Simple but very pleasant. weaselkenievil (1609) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - APR 4, 2009
Bottle from Sainsburys. Looks like a glass of coke. Very mellow for a stout, light on the usual type flavours you’d expect. Nice enough and drinkable but lacking any knackers. Had it not slipped down so easy I wouldn’t have rated it so high. It’s downability gives it points in my book.
