Meckatzer Urweizen fulfills all demands for a dark Weizen in a most natural way. It takes its dark colour, as well as its well-rounded taste exclusively from the fine Caramelmalts used.

Hazy dark orange color with off-white head. Aroma has fresh yeast, oranges, cloves and wheat. Taste starts with some clean malt followed by yeast flavor, finish is slightly astringent with orange flavor. Medium to full bodied with medium effervescence. Overall it’s a really balanced beer. Not as dark and roasty as other dunkelweizens, just a bit more heavy than a standard hefeweizen.

(Bottle, Aufsturz, Berlin, 15 July 2015) Reddish brown colour, hazy, with frothy beige head. Malty, slightly roasted nose with notes of crisp-bread, banana and brown sugar. Malty taste with crisp-bread, toasted malt, orange peel and banana. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Well balanced and tasty. Quite enjoyable.

Pours cloudy orange with a medium, frothy off-white head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is banana and cloves, spicy wheat malt and a light citrus note. Flavor is earthy and spicy wheat malt, banana and cloves with a dry finish. Light body and moderate carbonation.

500ml bottle (Koht Winter Auction, Tallinn)
Tinned tomato, then banana, then toffee, in the aroma. Smooth wheaty aroma, Some sourness in the taste, a little bit of chalk. Nice fruity esters, some almond and cherry too. A decent deep orange, brief head. Dry bitter finish. Quite a long dry bitter finish from noble hops.

*Old rating. Many thanks to kevnic2008 for this bottle. Best before 18.09.10. Nice smooth Hefeweizen. Hints of caramel, fruity-yeast, not too sweet and round.
