Fruity aroma, lots of banana. Deep yellow with some orange undertones. Sweet malt, with a dry finish. Full and round, seemed like a German Helles. One of the better non-Pilsener American lagers--Great! vwsteggie (684) - Paxton, Massachusetts, USA - APR 26, 2004
Has a nice amber color with moderate carbonation and medium head. Smell is of sweet malts. Taste is also of sweet malts with medium body and finishes with little bitterness. Overall a very good beer. Braudog (6898) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - OCT 4, 2003
Golden-orange, thin but sticky head... Sweet, almost lime-flavored malty beer. Light and yummy. WISEGUY572 (1377) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 12, 2003
Clear reddish beer with a crisp white head. Malt, citric, floral, pleasant enough, and easy drinking. Best enjoyed with pizza in Hilo where it is brewed. jgb9348 (6579) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - NOV 10, 2012
Hazy deep copper coloured body with an amber glow and a two centimetre tall off-white very soapy head - exploded from the bottle, but didn’t result in any more head - interesting. Aroma of soap, cardboard, a bit of an earthy and acidic malt note, some mild sugars, apples, pears and a bit of yeast. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence; Strong apple and pear flavour with a mild cardboardie malt note, some light yeast and grassy hop flavours with a bit of a lingering earthy, almost wheatie type flavour. Aftertaste not really complex, but showing a lot more than a lager typically does, even most viennas. Overall, not a horrible beer at all, but not great. Still, worth trying if you can find this, given that away from the brewery on Lahaina, there isn’t many great and accessible hawaiian beers to find. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whaler’s General Store in the Poipu Shopping Village in Poipu, Kauai, Hawaii on 07-March-2011 sampled at home in Washington on the other side of the country on 09-November-2012.

Although labeled as a lager, this beer is most reminiscent of an American amber with its healthy amber color (and healthy head) and malt notes abundant in both aroma and flavor. Quite a refreshing, relatively simple beer--but with some deeper roasted notes detectable. A satisfying medium-bodied amber-like ale. MrRomero (1976) - Nolanville, USA - JAN 6, 2005
Pours copper with a shortlived cream colored head. Initial aroma was of chlorine followed by a sweet, slightly apple juice aroma. A touch of cinnamon. Flavor is mostly malt with a bit of apple. Decent effort. Aubrey (3516) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - JAN 4, 2006
Draft at brewery: Golden hue with a nice and foamy (and lasting) white head. Smooth body with a complementing carbonation level. Malts were bready and a little nutty. A honey-like sweetness lingered. Light, herbal hops. Very small hint of fruit in the background. Nothing to get excited about, but it was a decent-drinking beer. shadey (2171) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 28, 2010
12oz bottle from Hawaii. Pours a bright melon orange with a massive rock white head of tight white bubbles. The aroma is slightly sweet and has hints of orange peel and lemon. Flavors are initially bland and lager-ish, but the finish reveals some of the citrus. Not a bad little lager from a tough-to-get brewery.
