COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Hawaiian-style European lager is most often described as being very smooth with lots of body and some bitterness. It is an all-malt brew with the tropical taste in mind. This lager has a deep copper color with a malty aroma and subtle fruitiness creating a caramel maltiness on the palate with a sweet malt aftertaste.

Gold color, thick white head and light lacing. The nose is bright with some light earthy hops, a bit of EKG or something noble and a nice light malt sweetness, a bit cleaner than most, with a light herby note. The flavor is nice and malty with a light toasty quality and a fairly strong hop bitterness and a bright sweet finish, a decent body and a herby mouthfeel from the hops. Decent and flavorful, even for a regular lager. Good.

Pours gold with a thin white head. Smells of bread, some sweet malty hints, earthy. Tastes light and slightly tarte with a semi-sweet finish.

Had this while on vacation in Hawaii, or maybe on the plane, not sure. Decent stuff, nothing special.

(Draught) Sampled at Cafe Pesto in Hilo, Big Island, Hawaii. Pours a frothy white top and a light gold, mildly carbonated body. Nose is milky with a slight grain undertone. Crisp, tangy lemon flavour with a white pepper finish. Good.

toncatcher (228) - Santee - SAN DIEGO, California, USA - FEB 25, 2008
I had this on the plane ride back from Honolulu. Pours amber with a surprisingly thick creamy head into a plastic cup, yes I know, with some lacing. Aroma of spice. Flavors of a saison, spice, banana, malt. All in all a pretty nice brew.

Bottle. Poured a clear gold color with a two finger white head. Aroma and flavor was malty, with an earthy finish. Not a bad island beer.

VertBaconStrips (2389) - Blerkablerka, VENEZUELA - MAY 27, 2009
Another decent entry from Mehana. A darkening amber beer with better than average head which never totally dissapeared. No lacing. A dry malty aroma that was perhaps a little too weak but pleasant enough with a bit floral added. Good mild matly taste and some weak hops in the background made this stuff pretty smooth but a tad lacking in flavour. Drink this ice cold or while lashing out at friends with death threats. Emptied the glass quite quick. I’d have no problem have a case in the house.

From a bottle poured a golden colro with a fair amount of head. Nice sweet spicy flavor with a quick finish.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2010 Sample at the Mehana Taproom in Hilo. Pours a clear golden color with a thin white head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Grainy malt aroma with light caramel and hop notes. Light body with sweet bready malt and mild hops flavors. The finish is caramel malt up front with a mild bitterness left over. Average overall.

On tap @ the Yardhouse, Oahu. Yellow with a white head. Faint aroma of bready malt and very light hop. Clean flavor of some malt and light bitterness. Light body with active carbonation and a crisp finish. Nice beer, no flaws and refreshing.
