Grima (2394) - Merzkirchen, RLP, GERMANY - MAY 18, 2011
Beautiful ruby red color with a slight haze. Smells malty bitter with a slightly roasted aroma.Starts with a fantastic balance of roasted malt flavor, mild bitterness and a pleasant sweet taste.Sweet-caramelly aftertaste, with hints of roasted malts and some nut aromas. The further course is caramelly-sweet, with massive malt body, paired with a delicious sweet aroma. Totally amazing!!! CraftyBeerTour (155) - Barcelon, SPAIN - AUG 18, 2014
Bottle. Brite, amber. Delicate carbonation. Persistent one-finger head that laces nicely. Very enticing. Don’t drink too quickly as aroma really opens up as approaches room temperature, revealing sweet fruits and later a little roastiness. Mineral sensation in the mouth. Pleasant soft bitter linger. Could drink till the cows came home. jonas (7568) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - JAN 3, 2004
Bottle Caramel malt, a hint of chocolate and bitter hop aroma.
Beautifull golden brown color, the frothy white head leaves lace on the glas and the well-lagered light carbonation looks like champagnebubbles.
The nice sweet roasted and butterscotch-like maltflavors stay enough in the background and leave a lot of space for a wonderfull broad hop profile - Meisterhaft.
Light chocolate and bitterhop aftertaste, medium body and a fine bubbling mouthfeel. Bierkrug (2129) - - JUN 27, 2011
Part of the Nurnberg Beer Raid 2011. 500 ml bottle in Nurnberg, Germany. Dark brown color with a foamy tan head. Taste is malt, some smoke. An intense lasting smooth palate. Truly a well made beer!

Bottle 50cl. Dark brown colour, small white head. Taste very malty, almost smoky, intense, longlasting aftertaste. Truly a handcrafted beer, no industrial crap, compliment! hopscotch (11078) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - FEB 14, 2011
Bottle… February in Franconia (2011)… This beer rocks!… Clear, brilliant copper lager with a huge, frothy, white that slowly diminishes to a small, creamy, tight cap which remains afloat throughout consumption. The bouquet is toasty, doughy and lightly nutty - so reminiscent of mashing day inside a brewery – boiling wort… ahhh yesss. The hops are subdued, but smell earthy and spicy. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. The flavor offers sweet, toasty and doughy notes along with flavorful, spicy hops – low bitterness. Finishes lightly sweet and toasty with only a tinge of bitterness. World class dunkel in my book! Thanks go out to erlangernick and Koelschtrinker for making this month of Franconian lagers possible! Amber. Bright. Thick head. Rich toasty aroma, light fruity bursts. Toasty, lightly herbal, with quite a rich character. Full body. Very drinkable. ToddA (21) - California, USA - NOV 27, 2009
From a bottle brought home from my latest trip to Franconia. Sweetish dark lager much in the local style. A hint of smoke, loads of munich malt sweetness and just a hint of hops for balance. Very clean and a hint of sulfur but in a good way. Highly recommended, went by the brewery twice in October to find it closed both times. Bottle comes from Rewe Getranken market not far from brewery...can’t remember town. MartinT (9880) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 17, 2014
My Bottom Line:
Delicate nutty caramel and herbal hop bitterness get along nicely in this dry and süffig lager.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy sheet of foam covers the misty auburn.
-The flavor profile is balanced.
-This is clearly in the same flavor family as their neighbor Penning-Zeisler’s Vollbier.
-Drinkability is through the roof.
On tap at the brewpub.
