COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Take an India Pale Ale and feed it steroids, ergo the term Double IPA. Although open to the same interpretation as its sister styles, you should expect something robust, malty, alcoholic and with a hop profile that might rip your tongue out. The Imperial usage comes from Russian Imperial stout, a style of strong stout originally brewed in England for the Russian Imperial Court of the late 1700s; though Double IPA is often the preferred name. You can thank west coast American brewers for this somewhat reactionary style. "Thanks!"

Can (12 oz) at home. Thanks to kcherney for this one! Clear bright blond-golden with a medium white head, good retention, leaving some lacing. Aroma is of mangoes, resin, tropical fruits / passion fruit, sweet malts and alcohol. Taste is also mangoes and tropical fruits forward with resin, a good malt backbone (but never cloying / overpowering), alcohol and moderate bitterness. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. Resinous finish, rather dry. I’m really fond of NEIPA these days but a good West Coast IIPA like this is always welcome. Really well balanced for a 9% abv IIPA. Bursting with mangoes and tropical fruits. A few cans of this can make you have a pretty fun night... and get really drunk in a flavorful way. Very good!

Prufrockstar (2132) - Moscow, Idaho, USA - MAR 15, 2017
Draft at Slice and Biscuit in Moscow, ID. This place is fucking great, btw. Clear pale pour, rocky white head, great lacing and retention. Bright juicy citrus and resinous nose. East coast hazy juice beers are fine and all, but I gotta say, nothing really compares to a big fresh hoppy western style IPA like this beauty. Sweet enough to see you through, bitter enough to remind you you’re drinking a grown-up beverage, bursting with expressive hop aromatics. I could repeat this all night, regret it the next day, and still come back to it again later that night. Medium+ body, oily but smooth texture, average carbonation. Overall: yeah, hell yeah. Addendum: should probably be a 4.1, but this glass I’m drinking right now ... I’m loving it way more than 4.1, and it’s hard to find places to ding it. So this rating high will stand until it inevitably gets knocked down by repeated exposure in all kinds of weather and circumstance.

Can share at RBBWG 2017, thanks for sharing.

Thank you BuckeyeBoy! 355 ml. can sampled @ RBBWG VI (2017). Lightly hazy orange, small white head. Nose is lovely onion & garlic hop oil, rich, potent. Taste is just basic big very nice onion & garlic hop, low cheese, melon. Body is the same big hop oil, might use some malt presence but very pleasant brew all the same, neat.

No head; hazy yellow-golden beer; Hops, citrussy, vegetable frying oil, palm oil, arachide, moambe, mushrooms. Sweet-sourish bitterish flavour - very good balance indeed. Muscat de Samos, but bitter instead of sweet; cheese. Slick, well-bodied, low on carbonation. Not one to rave about, but more than decent.
