Bevanda preziosa. Da centellinare in piccoli calici.

Editor’s note: this entry is for the 2010 beer, similar to Roots in Wine, aged for a different period and producing a different result; easily identifiable because the name then changed.

olio (10688) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 6, 2016
25 cl bottle. 2010 vintage.
Pours murky orange-brown color with no head. Sweet ripe fruits and caramel on the nose, mild earthy tones, raisins and some sweet malts. Flavor is caramel, plums and raisins, earth and spices, malts and some faint wood. A bit flat, decent malt beverage.

laiti (8531) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 6, 2016
25 cl bottle @ home, produced 10/2010
Aroma has raisins, alcogol, licorice and anise. Sugary sweet and candy-like. Flavour has rather strong and spicy tones. Some non-disturbing alcohol and mild solvent, a bit messy too. Mild cardboardish vibes in the finish telling the age of this sample.

And to brianza_ale: don’t you underestimate the power of veliemboys! ;-)

Bottled October 2010 - Pours dark reddish orange with a tiny head. Aroma of caramel, candies, raisins, hints of anise and spices. Taste is flat, sweet and caramely with some toffee, candies, raisins, ripe fruits, berries and earthiness. Finish is flat, warming and malty with some caramel, toffee, candies, berries, hints of raisins and ripe fruits. Quite sweet and caramely.

Probably the last review this beer will get. 25 cl, vintage 2010 in teku. Pours a a very small beige frothy head, which disappears very quickly, dark orange to leathery brown cloudy colour. Smells bubble gum, malty, very fruity, carob, prune, bit of basement funkiness, woody and leathery; wow. Tastes very fruity, grape, tart cherry, winey licorice; nice initial sweetness that transforms into a low to medium vinous sour/tart. Medium bodied, low carbonation, bit wine tannic and some astringency. Very nice one, great balance and finish

Tasting at Chez Bruce. Murky amber beer, not much of a head. Nose of sourish orange fruits. Palate is light and semi dry. Tangy malts with sweet and sour fruits. Definite winey tang. Over ripe orange. Touch of oxidised caramel. Smooth semi dry finish.

Theydon_Bois (21480) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - JUN 8, 2014
Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, thanks to LKS, 28/05/14. Murky orange amber with a moderate light beige swirl and edgeing. Nose is marzipan, spice, dark fruit, caramel, light booze, butterscotch. Taste comprises tangy dark fruits, lgiht acidic notes, toffee, dates, prune juice, cake mix. Medium + body, fine carbonation, lick of booze and sweet lickings in the close. Ok barley wine, doesn’t drink like 10%.

Scopey (16266) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 28, 2014
Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours murky brown with a small tan head. The nose is rich, juicy, plum, prune, varnish, cassis, jammy and candy sugar. The taste is tangy, blackcurrant jam, earth, vinous, red grape, sherbet, mild acidity, sherbet, and earth with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Tangy fruity and easy going.

Bottle shared in London - picked up in Rome. Vintage 2011. Pours unclear, amber-gold with a bubbly, off-white head. The nose has tangy, oxidized fruits, light toffee, apricot, orange, hints of balsamic vinegar. Medium sweet flavor with lots of woody dryness, some leather, pale berries, white grape, mild alcohol, hay. Full bodied with fine carbonation and lightly oily texture. Lightly warming finish, vinous, some salt and vinegar, tangy fruits, sweat. Solid. Quite dynamic. Pretty impressive.

Planzo (20) - Gorgonzola, ITALY - JAN 31, 2014
25cl bottle from menaresta, 2010 edition. Amber/brown hazy colour, no head at all. Aroma is sweet, lot of fruit, cherry, strawberry, grapes, red apple. Taste is sweet fruit, lots of cherry, some wine, strong acid, a hint of bitterness end. Medium body, a bit watery, no carbonation. I am not a big fan of barley wines, and this is not an exception.

Sissio (1785) - Orsenigo, ITALY - DEC 18, 2013
