3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 12, 2011 Bottle. Poured a deep dark muddy black with a huge frothy tan head that produced some really good lacing. The aroma was of dark roasted bread malts, a resin hop and a meaty yeast with notes of dark chocolate, coffee and molasses. It tasted a little bitter-sweet with a hint of molasses and chocolate at first and finished with a bitter coffee flavor that had a strong dark chocolate presence at the end. Mouthfeel was very full in body and nice, smooth and creamy texture with a flat carbonation. Overall this stout was exceptionally smooth with a very nice flavor from beginning to end.

I got this one in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks, John!
This pours from 12oz bottle a near pitch black with a small head of foam. A few minutes in and all that's left is a few small islands in the middle and a ring around the glass. Lacing is minimal.
The smell is full of sweet malt to my nose.
The taste has a lot of caramel malt up front that starts off very sweet but that's offset quickly by some hop bitterness that cuts the level of sweetness pretty well. I also get some good chocolate notes along with some roasted malt and an earthy flavour also shows up. It finishes slightly bitter but at the very end, it comes off on the watery side. It has a good mouthfeel to it for the style and the carbonation is fairly brisk. Pretty good stout in my book.

From old tasting notes. Opaque black brown color topped by a creamy tan head. Rich roasted chocolate malt nose. Dryish, bitter roasted malt flavor has hints of espresso. Big hoppy finish and a long bitter aftertaste. PugUglyBrewer (791) - - SEP 29, 2016
A thin and dry stout with tame roast and chocolate notes. Subtle piney hops in the finish. Dark brown color with a light tan head. Easy going and a solid crowd pleaser. beertholomeus (1814) - California, USA - SEP 7, 2016

Aroma is roasty chocolate and sweet malt. Appearance is dark brown almost black with big frothy off white head that lingers well. Taste is sweet roasty chocolate malt forward. Hint of bitterness from roast and hops. Light minerally water flavor. Palate is medium. Creaminess coats the tongue nicely. Overall an excellent stout. Not over the top but well brewed with nice flavors. Great definition of the style. eRock_2013 (509) - South Carolina, USA - JAN 8, 2016
An interesting and well done stout, pours a dark espresso brown with white lacing to contrast, aroma of light roasty malt with bitter cocoa accents. Flavor of smoky roasted malt, some subtle chocolate malt sweetness. Medium-to-light mouthfeel, thin but not watery. Coffee roast and cocoa in the finish. An interesting variety of layered roasty malt flavors present overall, that doesn't overwhelm the palate and indeed finishes on a relatively crisp note. Enjoyable. bth122 (1639) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 4, 2016

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2015 Bottle. Pours clear black, small beige head, some lacing. Aroma is roasty, perhaps a hint of rubber and ashtray. Flavor is very light sweet, roasty, light bitter. Light body. Eh. TorbenJensen (1572) - Valby, DENMARK - SEP 13, 2015
Rich foam and a lovely aroma of coffee and chocolate. The taste varies over the classical dark chocolate, coffee, lightly roasted malt and a small touch of licorice. The finish is moderately hoppy with dry end. A good stout who do nothing bigger impression, but still keeps the type of accuracy. Well recommended.
