An aggressive and old-school American Double IPA here, and a well named one, as this beer rips out your palate and the flies off to regurgitate it into the mouths of its frenzied young. Its combo of five malts and six hops creates a unique experience too. Anyone who touts themselves as a true hophead should seek out this beer now. Malts: Specialty 2 Row, Wheat, Munich, Vienna, CaraMunich 40. Hops: Warrior, Cascade, Amarillo, Summit, Pilgrim, Centennial. Dry Hop: Amarillo, Summit, Simcoe.

Good beer. 10% ABV. Good amount of bitterness followed by a beautiful rush of orange peel zest. I don't like IPA's with strong fruit accents but this brew pulled it off. Well done. ---Crozier

Orange bitter bomb - havent been a fan of Mendocino for a long time, but this was a festival beer so figured why not. Bitter citrus and pine, oily body, some alcohol. Not bad, but nothing special.

Slightly hazy amber/orange with bits og sediment floating and nice off white head. Looks to be delicious. The aroma agrees. Lots of aroma of lemon and tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple and mango etc. Some bread and cough drop aroma as well. The taste is medium sweet, quite bitter and slightly acidic. Citrussy, tangerine and grassy flavors. The bitter finish stay for a long time. Full body and lots of recidual sugar on the lips though it doesnt taste overly sweet. I like it.

Just a quick note on this. Its a full bodied IPA, but the aftertaste didnt sit well with me. It had a lingering bitterness to it that I didnt enjoy, and I enjoy hoppy beers.

Excellent DIPA/IIPA. Completely smooth drinking, plenty of hops but well balanced. Pretty strong on the alcohol front but it doesnt compromise the taste at all.

Bottle from Safeway in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is sweet ginger candies, pine-y resin, some honey, grapefruit. Taste is sweet and smooth up front but the bitterness comes in a bit harsh. Something disconnected or artificial about this.

Bomber from Safeway Salinas. Nose is lightly citrus with some mango and papaya and the slightest hint of pine. Lightly hazy orange with a big heavy lacing off white head. Flavor is moderately bitter and spicy with some fruit notes.

An aroma of tropical and citrus fruits. I dont feel the hoppy quality of an IPA in the taste. The palate is thick and heavy. Boozy as hell. Tasty, but an IPA? Maybe the high ABV is overwhelming the hop quality.

Tap: tasted at the Tap Room. Light brown copper / tan. Medium lift of citrus and tropical. Dark malt. Big and bitter. Lacks the flavor to balance the bitterness. Missing either the hop lift or malt to define the style.

Transfer from BA review on 12-4-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance The beer pours a nice medium amber color with tons of carbonation bubbles streaming up through the brew, leaving a one finger height of a white foamy head on the surface of the brew. The head of the beer has a fantastic level of retention, very slowly fading over time to leave a good level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell The aroma is big of tropical fruit smells of papaya, mango, tangerine and a bit of pineapple. Along with the tropical fruits, are some notes of a caramel sweetness as well, adding to the overall sweet aroma. Other than the sweet though, there is also a nice bit of an earthy/woody and pine hop as well as some very light hop notes of a more grapefruit nature. Taste The taste begins, as the nose would have suggested, with a good deal of sweet tropical fruits and caramel sweetness. The tropical fruits are just what the nose depicted with tangerine, mango, and papaya all there, but in also contained some other fruity tastes of a light melon variety as well. Along with the sweeter flavors, the beer also bolsters a rather nice doughty taste right up front, which creates a nice base for all the flavors to lie on. Soon after the initial tastes some hop flavors started to be sensed, with a bit of a pine hop flavor. Other hops join the taste more toward the middle with some more grassy/haylike and earthy/woody flavors piling onto the taste. The hops grow stronger to the end, counteracting some of the sweetness a little bit and bringing a bit more of an IPA flavor to the brew. Toward the very end some of the booze from the 10 % abv can be detected, bringing about a nice level of warmth. With the combination of flavors that is left on the tongue at the end, one is left with a quite satisfying, fruity and sweet, slightly warming and moderately hoped doughy flavor to be left on the tongue. Mouthfeel The body of the beer is quite thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side even in light of all the carbonation bubbles seen streaming through the brew. The lower carbonation and thicker body are fantastic for all the big flavors of the brew, soaking the tongue in all the robust flavors. Overall Though not a hop powerhouse, this big, sweet, and robust IPA was very pleasurable to drink. And while a bit of warming alcohol was sensed on the tongue, it wasnt a lot in light of the 10 % abv. but just enough to keep you in check. Overall this beer was very easy drinking and quite enjoyable.

Bomber from Hayduke. We had it together via facebook chat. This is hazy and honey golden. A good amount of carbonation floating up. In the aroma I get tangerine and caramel. Lots of fruit, actually. The flavor brings a lot of fruit and a lot of malts. This was never bitter and the citrus grew. It did not get to grapefruit level but was nice. Candy was tasted but i could not figure out what kind of candy.
