Regular IPA smell, hoppy, but not too much, actually finishes kinda malty and sweet..nothing great though...better with time though danielyabu (1708) - União da Vitória, BRAZIL - JAN 12, 2015
average frothy offwhite head. mostly diminishing. thick translucent beige body. aroma: caramel, moderate hoppy, citrus orange. if and ff: light sweet moderate bitter; average duration. palate: medium body, watery/oily texture, lively carbonation, metallic finish. Pesado amargor de lupulo, permeado por dulçor cítrico, que não lembra exatamente laranja, como a média do estilo. Dulçor traz também no background a leve lembrança de quik de morango. Sabor picante. Leve metalizado no final do gole surge como defeito, pois foi degustada cinco meses antes do vencimento.30 s mkel07 (6406) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - DEC 21, 2014
Bottle from Food Pantry Waikiki 211214. Big hop aroma with fresh cut flowers, citrus and passionfruit coming to the fore. Full in the mouth with a big body. superspak (6015) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - NOV 12, 2014
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy dark orange/copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, biscuit, light toffee, herbal, floral, grass, and floral/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity citrus/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, pine, caramel, biscuit, light toffee, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange zest, pine, caramel, biscuit, light toffee, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and fairly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very solid IPA. Good complexity and robustness of citrus/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering. Sporting the regular pine and grapefruit flavors, more of the latter, but in a rather mild manner. Alcohol shines through a bit too much in the finish and chest.

"consistancy prevents me from putting this one at the top...at one point a few years ago it was my favorite ipa (pre stone), but over the years Mendocinos quality has tailed off...not as big and hoppy as it used to be, but still good."
Used to be great! generallee08 (778) - New York, USA - SEP 23, 2014
The body has a golden amber color with a one inch collar of bright white foam. The head quickly settle to a wispy thin layer that makes some spotty lacing. Its nose has the classic American citrus hops with notes of lemon, grapefruit and a touch of pine. I also get light toffee like malt underneath the hops. Just as I was expecting from the aroma I get citrusy grapefruit rind and some pine like hop notes right up front. It’s not over the top with hops but the balance in favor of the hops over the light base of candy like malt sweetness. Hop flavor runs right into the finish and gives it a gentle bitter fade. An easy drinking medium body rounds out the palate. Ericular (1037) - Minnesota, USA - JUL 20, 2014
Pours a clear amber with nice white head leaving good lacing. Aroma is malty, possibly some expired hops? Taste is thin, some stale malts, salty, odd bitterness at the end. Not good for me. alexsdad06 (10821) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - JUN 10, 2014
12 oz bottle at home from backlog notes. Pours a slightly hazy golden amber color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have some citrus and resiny hops, caramel, toasted malts, with a mild bitterness to the finish. Nothing bad, but everything is muted. This White Hawk clearly lives in a Pine tree and snacks on grapefruits and oranges rather frequently. I am not sure what the "select" means before IPA, other than that it has been selected to be sold as an IPA. Big pine-doggin’ here with loads of citrus too. Some peaty earth flaves kickin’ it as well. Needs more malt on the ol’ tightrope to keep it from a-goin’ down down down.
