Name changed to Redwood Stout in 2015.

Jet black in color and fullbodied with a rich, creamy, long-lasting head. Robust, with luscious chocolate and coffee flavors, it is balanced with just the right amount of UK Golding hops. Brewed with massive quantities of oats, our Oatmeal Stout is smooth in the extreme. It pairs well with a wide range of hearty, full-flavored foods and delicious desserts. Our Oatmeal Stout is 6.0% alcohol by volume and 100% marvelous!

Bottle. Pours a flat black body under a small fizzy light brown head that faded pretty quickly to a thin film. The nose is quite nice, very roasty with a slightly sweet oatmeal character and a bit of chocolate notes. The flavor is just lightly sweet with a definite oatmeal quality and a coffee laced roastiness. Just a little bit of bitterness on the back end from the malt. Medium bodied and fairly smooth with soft fizzy carbonation. Pretty nice drinkable Stout.

12oz bottle from ABC on Betton. Near black pour with thin tan head that disappears quickly. Aroma is charred roasty malt. Tastes are chocolate and light smoke with good amount of caramel in background. Palate on the thin side, but also creamy. Was turned off at first by all of the smoke, but kind of digging on it more as I go.

12 oz bottle that was part of the Winter 2012 World Market 9 pack, courtesy of my in-laws. The pour is a lightly hazed black brown with a smallish tan head that falls quick. The aroma is tobacco leafy, roast malt, and a touch of light sweet cream. The taste is the soft roast, leafy grass, and finishes with a lightly sweet malt. After taste is the roast, showing a touch of char. As the beer warms, notes of soy and licorice surface, which detracted. The palate is light to medium bodied, soft full carbonation, and the char grass finish.

Pours a dark opaque brown with good tan head and lacing. Aroma reminds me of chocolate syrup with chocolate and vanilla flavors. Some caramel and milky aromas also. Taste is milk chocolate with lightly roasted malt and oats, quite a bit of caramel sweetness and vanilla. Finishes with a bit of dark chocolate bitter. Mouthfeel is medium-full and somewhat creamy but higher carbonation keeps it from feeling as creamy as I'd like. Maybe could have benefitted from a slightly higher ABV and less carbonation. May have made the flavor richer and more complex for my palate but still drinkable. ---Jeremy H

Poured from 12 oz. bottle to English pint glass. Very dark brown to black. Large creamy/rocky light brown long-lasting head with great lacing. Moderate malty smell with light yeast and no discernible hops. Pleasant cookie aroma that carried to the flavor. Starts and ends sweet with a medium creamy body and soft mouthfeel.

Poured into a New Belgium globe glass. Dark, dark brown with a dark tan head, medium-large in size. Nose is sweet oatmeal, as if someone dumped a good amount of maple syrup on their breakfast oatmeal, but with a touch of sourness. Taste was somewhat balanced. Not bad, but lacking what I expect in a good oatmeal stout.

Pours a rich deep umber color with a big khaki foam. Aromas are roasted malts, chocolate and wet bark mulch. The flavors follow the nose nicely with rich creamy mouthfeel that bitters out nicely in the finish.. could be a little fuller on the body but overal a solid session stout.

The bouquet is definitely sweeter than the flavor. The appearance richer than the palate. Oatmeal certainly dominates the nose. Bitterness tends to dominate everywhere else.

Bottle. Metallic lactic aroma. Black brown with a minimal beige head. Astringent slightly sour malt, earthy oat flavor. Light body, soft carbonation.
