3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark opaque brown with good tan head and lacing. Aroma reminds me of chocolate syrup with chocolate and vanilla flavors. Some caramel and milky aromas also. Taste is milk chocolate with lightly roasted malt and oats, quite a bit of caramel sweetness and vanilla. Finishes with a bit of dark chocolate bitter. Mouthfeel is medium-full and somewhat creamy but higher carbonation keeps it from feeling as creamy as I'd like. Maybe could have benefitted from a slightly higher ABV and less carbonation. May have made the flavor richer and more complex for my palate but still drinkable.
Bottle from World Market in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is caramel, burnt toffee, some licorice, cocoa, some dark fruits. Taste is subdued, mild cocoa creaminess, slightly tinny, and then some old weak coffee. Great aroma but the flavors are muddled. Mouthfeel is really crisp / carbonated and not as smooth as I’d hoped for. degbert (1773) - Austin, Texas, USA - FEB 2, 2017
Bottle. And now, we shall Kick The Crap Out Of The Envelope. Meet the oatmeal stout with no chocolate or coffee notes. No, really. Nose is licorice, molasses, castor bean, and Worcestershire sauce. Palate is Worcestershire, smoked meat, licorice, beef broth, and herbal mint. Finish is clean, with just a touch of sweetness. Not once did I taste mocha madness, vanilla, or anything related to Starbucks. It was amazing. Bravo, Mendocino. DenverLogan (1212) - LA, California, USA - FEB 1, 2017
From a 12 oz bottle into a stem glass. Label is different with cool trail through redwood grove. Pours black with brown head and lace. Aroma of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, slight coffee. Medium carbonation and significant mouthfeel. Flavors of dark malts, slight chocolate, carob, minerals, wet towel. Overall flavorful but with some bitter yuckiness. 12oz bottle into a Corsendonk tulip on 25th May 2016, while on holiday in California. Very dark brown, OK, it’s black, the head a thin wisp and collar. Oats and barley malts rule the nose and taste giving a smooth chocolate and coffee type flavours to the deep body feel. Easy to drink and a very pleasant Oatmeal Stout all round. Pitch Black Color, Small Tan Head, Does Not Last, Light Lacing. Toasted Oat, Light Chocolate, Coffee Aroma. Taste About The Same: Toasted Malt, Sweet Chocolate, Some Coffee. Body On Lighter Side, Thinner Than It Looks. Good. Worth A Try...

I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments.
