Sampled at GTMW 2013 and FoBAB 2012. Pours a nice deep copper with an off white head. Nose is smoky with strong pepper presence, touches of sweet malt, lager yeast and bourbon notes. Draft at Fobab 10. Pours a deep copper with an offwhite head. The nose is really cool. Smoky with raisin and vanilla, strong cinnamon. Kind of almost like hot tamales in there. On tasting, strong cinnamon, clean and fresh. Het from the peppers follows it up and reminds me, again, of red hots. Smokey finish but the barrel works really well here. Really cool beer. Sampled at FoBAB 10 - 2012 (Chicago, IL). Pours a well hazed dulled amber hue, some darkness and haze, glowing edges. Frothy whitish head dies to a film. Aromas are gentle sweetness, oak, rye, kiss of pepper. Initial is peppery, earthy, and a touch vegetal. Bready, sweet dough, some oak, spirit. Peppers hit firmly up on the nose and front end. Sampled from the tap at 2012 FOBAB. Pours a clear amber with a tan head that lasts throughout the beer and laces slightly. Aroma has light grain with a good amount of pepper coming through and some rye barrel coming through. Imo just the wrong style of beer to experiment like this. I love these chilies but they just don’t work in this one.
