3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma is a complex mix of malts, fruit and a mild nuttiness. The flavor is fruit/berries, a hint of tropical fruit and a mildly sweet, malty finish.
12 oz bottle pours a amber with a off white head.Aroma of pale malt, dough, sweet malt, caramel malt, slight citrus hops, hint of yeast, hint of pepper, and slight rye. Tastes of caramel malt, pale malt, slight sweet malt, hint of rye, slight hops, and a hint of dough. TAR (2776) - Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA - JUN 12, 2017
Clear rusty orange. Sticky ring of foam deposits some lace on the glass. The pleasant aroma presents autumn leaves, persimmon, minerals, tea, nuts, hay, spicy hops and flower nectar. Gentle pinpricks of carbonation. Impressively snappy right out of the gate, with an elegant interplay of spicy, nectar-dabbed hops and polished malt which suggests autumn leaves and hazelnut. A modest grip of sulfurous lager yeast and minerals tightens up the body and highlights the clean fermentation. Nicely attenuated, and the autumnal effects complement this brilliantly. Yet adding to the ample malt sugar which looms beneath the earthiness is a bouncy pils-derived haystack base that imparts a subtle but satisfying chewiness and a rigid edge of toast. Rustic persimmon and an explosive apricot vibrancy amplify the autumnal feel, and considerable succulence and depth ensues as they meld with the bountiful nectar. Touch of breadcrust develops as the beer warms, and the fine tea- and aniseed-like hops are in lockstep with the grain. Refined malt caps the cohesive finish, as spicy hops linger alongside lengthy notes of dry leaves, hazelnut, pecan, and new-mown hay. The brewer is quite adept at mashing, as evidenced by the malt here which features the same level of sophistication that can be found in their excellent Copper Lager. The balance is well-achieved, and the well-lagered cleanness beckons you for large gulps. Quite a lot of personality here too, given how intricate and polished the malt is. A really nice altbier from a solid brewery. (Fingers crossed that the quality remains high after the expansion!) muzzlehatch (4969) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 21, 2016
12 ounce bottle from Woodman’s in Rockford, IL, served chilled in a Zywiec lager glass. Uh-oh, it’s a gusher, the foam entirely fills the glass, fading pretty slowly and leaving beautiful intricate lacing above a dark gold - light amber clear body...light apple, toasty malt, a hint of sourness in the...mixed nose...can’t be certain that this sourness is supposed to be there, and it doesn’t much dissipate as the beer warms...thankfully there’s not a trace of infection in the flavor profile, which is very smooth, moderately sweet, deeply malty, and offering a slight twinge of dry twiggy hops at the finish...the mouthfeel is soft and somewhat milky, light, with lovely efferfescent carbonation. Ultimately pretty good but I suspect I should get a fresher bottle or try it on tap. As usual an awesomely cool deco-futurist label, I have to keep commending these guys on their designs. mrjaxson (607) - .08 Junction, Wisconsin, USA - APR 20, 2016
Caramel, molasses and citrus in the nose folowing a great looking pour. The mid-range hop punch counts out at 45 IBUs, according to our friends at the brewery (nice balance!). Good sharpness-sweet balance continues through the finish. scarletfire65 (1485) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 10, 2016
Draft at Fountainhead in Chicago. Sweet caramel on the nose. Pretty bitter on first taste. Some notes of raisin and savory malt. Finishes very clean and dry. Definitely lagered.

On draft at Global Edw. In a shaker pint. Clear amber with just a little foam. The beer offered some clean grains and cramel. No hops were tasted and I am surprised to see them listed in the description. Not exactly to the classic style but a nice beer. Niko100 (2966) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 22, 2014
Rich amber color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of caramel malt, hops, & some spice; Flavor of slight roasted sweet malt, caramel, spicy hops, and some fruit; Decent. Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - JUL 5, 2014
Notes just found on this. Rcvd in in - person trade with cousin in law from IL.
I had three of these beers, two were poured into pint glasses. One was into a stange. There wasn’t enough noticeable differences between the two glasses.
The appearance was a gentle hazy dark orange close to a pale brown color. There is a decent one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There is a decent light lacing trickling down the sides of the glass.
The smell had some good German malts coming through in a slight roasty to earthy rustic-ness.
The taste was quite flavorful as it presents a nice earthy to rustic sweet maltiness to lead to a slight comeback of the German malts.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed good as there wasn’t anything to complain about.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good altbier to have again. nuplastikk (6360) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 20, 2014
12oz bottle. Pretty solid representation of the style. Not overboard and into the warped American ideas of what a Sticke Alt is, this is straight down the middle, classic. Medium bodied, Nice balance between the medium dark malts and pleasant hoppy bitterness. Light caramel, toasty dark bread, sweet malts. A really pleasant beer, capturing the essence better than most US examples. Scipio (1142) - Palatine, Illinois, USA - APR 15, 2014
Pours a clear, darker red with a thinner off white head. The aroma consists of caramel, herbal hops, biscuit, lighter spices, and mild lemony impressions. The is mostly malty, although there is a citrus flavor noticed throughout. Upfront, it is bready with some caramel and cereal. The citrus undertones consist of mostly lemon with some minor orange. The aftertaste is those citrus notes. The body is light to medium, while having a smooth texture, and being average in carbonation. This one is alright, but nothing here jumps out as particularly special.
