tap @ now defunct brewpub on 16 Nov 2011. dark brown with small head. roasted malt & sweet with a rather weak body. thin and bland. Strykzone (7362) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUN 10, 2012
Bottle. Dark brown with red. It is opaque. A nice thick head of almost oatmeal consistency leaves lacing. A chocolate and yeast nose. I taste coffee first and ashes after that. Grass flavor and that doesn’t seem to belong here. Some roast, too. Feel is thin. In a nutshell, this tastes like cold coffee. flatmatt (1576) - Northville, Michigan, USA - SEP 13, 2011
On tap at the brewery. Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Roasty, smoky aroma with cocoa. Flavor is also roasty, with coffee and cocoa. Light palate. It’s decent. punkrkr27 (903) - Berkley, Michigan, USA - APR 21, 2009
Very dark brown pour with a small white head. Subtly roasty malt and bread aroma. Nutty bread flavor with a little bit of a spicy noble hop finish and a touch of brown sugar. Medium body with a crisp lager finish and moderate carbonation. tagz (337) - Alabama, USA - OCT 30, 2007
pours brown/black with no head. light earthy, coffee aroma. some sweet roasted grains come through but flavor drops off pretty quickly. the palate is quite thin. makes for easy drinking, but fails to leave a lasting impression.

Draft sampler at MBC. Poured a dark brown color with an average off-white head that diminished slowly. Moderate roasted malt aroma. Medium body. Good roasted chocolate flavor with a medium soft finish. Silphium (3199) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - APR 10, 2005
On tap at MBC. Dark brown body, thin off-white head. Thin roasty, toasty, nutty aroma. Flavor of dry chocolate and nutty notes, dominated by toast. Thin palate that gets a bit tart in the aftertaste. Easy drinking, but too thin with a weak finish. Aggie80 (818) - Michigan, USA - NOV 13, 2004
This one has a pretty low ABV. I was not overly impressed, I prefer their stout to this one. A nice chocolate undertone with a malty taste. Thinner than one would expect for a dark beer.
