2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
6 pack purchased at BevMo in Redding, CA. I was excited to purchase this because I had not had it for at least 8-10 years, since the REAL Celis Brewery in Austin, TX closed, and Pierre has since gone to Heaven. So when I saw Michigan Brewing Company was brewing the beer, I said to myself, "Ok, we’ll see..." So, here is my rating: THE POUR / APPEARANCE: pours a very pale yellow, to be honest, it almost reminded me of a American Budweiser color. Good head retention, decent Brussels lace. AROMA / BOUQUET: Nose is citrus- grapefruit, lemon, grassy. TASTE: This beer is not as well carbonated as it once was. I remember Celis Grand Cru being almost "Hot" from the spiciness when I last had it- this does not have that intensity. PALATE: This version is also not as carbonated as the original version, it is a bit thin in the mouthfeel. OVERALL: This beer is a "lite" version of what it once was. It’s a good beer now, but not world class. Slight disappointment in this one.
Originally rated on 1/26/09. A bit of a let down here, it looked, smelled and had the mouthfeel of a traditional lager, with the aroma having faint hints of yeast. The taste was not good, a sweet yeasty start and a bitter and a foul aftertaste. I wont try this one again. gripweed57 (2871) - Hamilton Square, New Jersey, USA - APR 17, 2017
From old tasting notes. Brewed in Austin Texas. Brilliant yellow gold color. Bubbly white head. Complex malt aroma with hints of citrus and spice. Spicy fruit malt flavor has notes of orange peel and anise seed. Very good. Bebum (1085) - Massachusetts, USA - OCT 14, 2016
Medium straw, cloudy.
Medium body, moderate flavor, refreshing mouthfeel, good length.
Moderate bitterness and sweetness, adequate acidity.
Coriander stands out, tangerine, blood orange.
Very pleasant, grows on you.

Bready coriander spice aroma. The body is a hazy yellow with a hint of amber. Thin covering of white foam blankets the top. Bread malt taste with a touch of coriander and spice. . Smooth silk feeling. Warms the palate. Pleasant and drinkable. Astrozombie (53) - Largo, Florida, USA - AUG 9, 2015
Light yellow in color no head. Notes of grass, Apple, malts, spicy hops. A nice strong ale for the price

Tallahassee, Fl - New Leaf Market - 12 oz bottle. Slightly murky medium golden, little to no head. Aroma of bubble gum and sugar water, Flavor is decidedly sweet with some Belgian candii sugar notes, some cotton candy, a touch of bubble gum. Mouthfeel has a decent stickiness to it. Passable. Misty patch-amber, standard 12 oz longneck, OK label. Sourish, slightly plasticky, plummy, yeasty aroma. On the front end, I thought it would do better. Woody saison thing. Mossy, a little diacetyl, yeasty, mineral, sour fruit. Has interesting flairs here and there, but also blows the shift at times, too. New Leaf Market. slowrunner77 (12895) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 26, 2014
"i realized when pouring this i’ve never had a light Grand Cru before...til now. cloudy straw yellow, aroma of grassy hops, herbs and spices, belgian yeast. pretty basic, but light and refreshing. not enough going on to go back for more, though." KyotoLefty (10694) - Kyoto, JAPAN - AUG 9, 2014
Bottle. From old notes. With herbs and spices, by the original maker of Hoegaarden. Very similar to Hoegaarden Grand Cru, but not quite as good. Not as rich and malty, the flavor just is not up to the other, although it is a pretty pleasant beer. J_man (1022) - Tustin, California, USA - MAY 30, 2014
This seems to taste like a strong version of Celis white! Bright, light golden color with a thin white head. Fresh vegetal/celery aroma and taste with coriander notes and some black pepper. Smooth, creamy malt background with a slight nuttiness. Good alcohol bite that I think seems stronger due to the spice herbaceousness. Spices last long after the sip. Another great Celis beer that I’ll be hoping makes a comeback soon!
