Celis White has been revived by Michigan Brewing Company with the blessing of its founder and his daughter, Christine Celis. The original Celis White, brewed in Austin, TX by Pierre Celis during the early and mid 1990’s, ceased production when Mr. Celis closed his Austin microbrewery and moved to Belgium.

In 2002, Michigan Brewing Company acquired Celis, and Celis beers were back in production. Michigan Brewing continued the production of Celis beers until its closure in 2012. In June 2012, the Celis trademark made its way back to the Celis family. In 2014, Christine Celis began having Pierre Celis’ original recipes brewed at Two Roads Brewery in Connecticut.

That great aroma of coriander and celery is exactly what I remember from the old Celis White. Crystal clear and very pale yellow (so much so it looks like cider) with a white foamy head. Lightly sweet with a sour tinge and that great vegetal flavor that makes this beer so unique. The lightest of floral hop bitterness shows through, but the taste is very unified although not one-dimensional. Residual honey sweetness and lasting yeasty flavor makes another sip inevitable. A classic beer that I wish was easier to find. Looks like Pierre’s daughter is going to revive it in Austin, TX this year, so let’s hope that dream comes true!!

Yet another rating that has disappeared. This is incorrect for the MJ book to as the one in the book was brewed in Texas.

330ml bottle from Roeland. Pours a hazy golden colour with tightly packed white head and some lacing. Aromas of citrus and white pepper and some light fruitiness (pears mostly). Palate has medium high carbonation and light body. Flavours of citrus, wheat, pears. Very low bitterness and a fruity dry finish.

It pours pale gold with slight lacing and a white head. It has aromas of fruit, lemon, wheat, and hints of pear. It have fruit flavors lead by lemon, orange, hints of pear, wheat, hints of coriander and spice. It is light bodied with high carbonation. Overall this is a fairly easy drinking fruity beer with spice and wheat compliments.

Light sweet wheat aroma with some spices. Looks great but could have more head. Slightly watery, but the essentials are there. Citrus, light spiciness, vanilla, wheat malts. Tastes nice just a bit too mild for me. I really like a flavorful wit beer and this one is just too weak (in flavor). Similar to Hoegaarden, just less pronounced. Nevertheless a nice one.

0.355l bottle. Hazy golden body, thin white head. Aroma of biscuit, honey, orange zest, peach and spices. Taste of bread, honey, coriander and some hops. Less fruity and more bready than the Hoegaarden, but still fine.

Bill Becker (1779) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - MAY 28, 2016
Bottled January 22nd 2016. Pours a light gold, slightly hazy with plenty of foam. Long lasting foam and good lacing. Cloves coriander yeast in the smell. Taste of the spices I mentioned. Hints of orange zest coming through and everything works well together. Fresher bottles would have been nice. Creamy smooth mouthfeel. Second pour and things get appropriately cloudy. A very impressive beer.

Tap at buckowski with commonmac and rosskyle and samadouche. Light clear gold with medium white head. Banana coriander spice head. Citrus, banana, crispness. Finish has a not quite perfect balance. Spicy, good mouthfeel. Pretty tasty.
