Bottle. Pours a transparent and reddish brown with a couple of fingers of beige head. Aromas are decent enough: a mix of nuts, earth, caramel/toffee. Flavor is much better than expected given the ratings. A nice mix of the above aromas with a little bit of a thinness to it, but still, this is good. trayns (246) - Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA - FEB 20, 2009
Growler. Pours a clearer brown golden color with a thin white head. Aroma is caramel and sweet malts. Taste follows, very flavorful sweet malt and caramel flavors, finishes with a clean hoppy bite. Body is a little on the thin side. HogTownHarry (6872) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - FEB 14, 2009
Bottle (12oz). Clear, very deep ruby pour, average foamy/fizzy off-white head. Slightly burnt caramel aroma, dry, nutty, a hint of cola. The taste is quite sweet, root beer syrup, slightly floral, dry and spicy - seems a little "forced" somehow, and thin. Weak, still body, quick finish to the malt, a slightly sugary and toffeeish aftertaste. Ehhhhh - kind of thin and syrupy. patrick767 (4063) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - JAN 10, 2009
bottle - Pours amber-brown with a thin tan head. It has a nice caramel malt aroma. The flavor is the expected sweet caramel nut malt with minimal hops. It’s light bodied and could use more to it, but let it warm up for awhile and it holds up decently. jstraw (1967) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 19, 2008
Caramel brown with big, foamy tan head / Nutty, caramel nose / Light body, with good, dry finish / Flavors of toast, hazelnuts, milk chocolate and burnt sugar / Very nice in a light style.

Sweet malt and mild caramel notes. Dark brown with creamy beige head. Mild nut, roast, alcohol, and hop bitter notes. Watery, with medium bitter finish. wmubronco1992 (709) - Coldwater, Michigan, USA - OCT 11, 2008
Bottle. Pours a dark brown. Big light tan head. Ok lacing. Mild chocolate flavor. Tastes of chocolate and carmal. Smooth feel. I’m not a big brown fan, but this beer was tasty and very drinkable. I am surprised that it isn’t rated a bit higher. Only negative was that it was a lttle thin. Ottscay (7) - Mason, Michigan, USA - AUG 31, 2008 does not count
UPDATED: MAY 10, 2009 Bottle. Medium head, which dissipated after a few moments. Beautiful brown color (especially when held up to the sun light.) This was like drinking a nutty, slice of wheat bread. Very nice flavor and not too overpowering with a nice finish. WakeandBake (549) - Greenville, Michigan, USA - AUG 14, 2008
UPDATED: OCT 17, 2009 Bottle. This is a complete rerate , I did not give this beer a fair shake the first time around . A clear medium brown color pour with a big lasting soapy white head , nice jagged lacing left , medium carbonation . Aroma is nutty with a bit of ground grain, toasty, with a bit of toffee .Flavor of roasted pecans , dry malt ,bread crust, caramel and some toffee , maybe a hint of spicy hops ,very balanced and not overly sweet . Fresh clean mouthfeel ,light to medium body , with a nice roasty finish . This was a very good beer and I had rated it WAY too low last time , maybe it has gotten better since then . Nice job MBC JamesMulvenon (26) - USA - AUG 4, 2008
I am always willing to try any brown ale, from near or far. Saw this one in the cooler at the local grocery store in Glen Arbor, MI on our annual vacation at the Northern Michigan lakehouse. Weak brown ale aroma, thin taste and weak finish. This is a shadow of the style and not one that I will be drinking again.
