strong nose of mellow fruit, red juicy, a little bit of alcohol all rapped in strong chocolate, some cedar and oak as well. sweet with dry points throughout, cedar, charchol, variable throughut, keeps it interesting. Zach Diesel (906) - Sisters, Oregon, USA - DEC 26, 2004
very winey and woody aroma, black...no head, super woody and vinous with a splash of milk chocolate and a roasty finish with the slightest hint of alcohol, aged "3 or 4 years" in a bourbon barrel and it shows Friday (30) - Brighton, Michigan, USA - DEC 21, 2003
Had this at thier taproom and after a few, had my keys taken away. It did have a strong roasted flavor, but not the overly sweet flavor I've had in other imperials. I like a beer you can gulp down, and not sip, and this beer can be gulped with no problem, despite the heavy flavors and alchohol. Color is black, thick and black. Another great beer, if not the best, produced by MBC. JoeM500 (1908) - Crown Point, Indiana, USA - OCT 29, 2003
Big, black beauty. Strong alcoholc nose is laced with black licorice, roasted malts, coffe, and cocoa. Body, mouthfeel both huge. Hints of underlying vinous notes. Alcohol is strong but rewarding in such a heavy load. It's all there, one of the "get you warm in a hurry" Imperial Stouts. DrnkMcDermott (3100) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - OCT 9, 2003
Draft, at MBC taproom, Oooh, mama! They are pushing it in a field crowded with great beers. It is an excellent brew on its own merits. A strong taste that avoids the mediciny aspect of a lot of other RIS's. I'd like to have taken some home to age.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2003 This brew poured a small head of dark brown bubbles and an opaque dark black/brown colored body. It had a heavy malt aroma and a very strong coffee flavor with good lacing and a smooth finished. hennes (934) - Fountain, Michigan, USA - MAY 11, 2003
Big, black, brutal. There are a lot of rough edged flavors in this beast - anise, coffee, vodka - though the decent body mellows them some. It's essentially untamed, like the Michigan weather on this blustery May day. proc (342) - Dearborn, Michigan, USA - FEB 23, 2003
A bold imperial stout. Sampled this at the Polar Beer Fest. Poured out into the glass as dark as midnight. Aroma was that of malt. Roasted malts and licorice come through quite strong tastewise, but aren't overdone. This is a big beer that doesn't disappoint.

Black with a light tan head. Huge aroma of coffee and light fruit, a touch vegetal and hops. Body is thick, smooth and very sweet with good roast that finishes bitter and big. The alcohol doesn’t hide very well, but the sweetness does some work trying to disguise it. I think that this stout could do without some of the very high alcohol content, but my jury is still out as to wheter I liked this or not, I defenitely liked where it was headed. Won a bronze at the American Beer Festival.
