2003 vintage. This is a dark black beauty with a small brown head that sticks around.Aromas of licorice, dark chocolate, roastiness, and some vinous notes abound. Flavors of dark chocolate, licorice, and roastiness greet you up front followed by some pleasent bitterness and some alcohol warming. I look forward to trying this when its aged a couple more years.

Sample from growler at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 04/27/2012. The beer is a brownish-black color with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of dark chocolate, coffee and malt. Full-bodied with a roasty coffee and malt character along with notes of hops and nuts. The finish is rich and malty with a lingering sweetness. Above average overall.

Estimate at 4-6 years old. Pours very dark brown and even I could get no significant head. Chocolate and bourbon aroma. Thinnish start and then scotch, vanilla, bourbon and lots of wood.A real sipper and needed 4 of us to get through the bomber. Thanks Steve in Warren.

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2010 Bottle shared by Sean, thanks! Poured a near clear black with a light brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma had a nice coffee note with some roasted malts and just a bit of dark chocolate. Flavor started with coffee and is joined by roasted malts and was balanced by a nice dark chocolate finish.

Michigan Brewers Festival 2006. Black body with a wee head. Oily palate is quite sweet and roasty. Mild sweet roast in the aroma with just a touch of dark malt. Palate is smooth with its medium oily mouthfeel. Solid but lacks depth and complexity. 7+/3/6/4/14

Bottle from backlog notes 07/08. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, vanilla, molasses with a hint of coffee, some earthy bitterness to the finish, good body to this. Solid imperial stout.
