Michigan Brewing Company Screamin’ Pumpkin Spiced Ale
12 oz bottle
Recent bottling, carved into 10/06
Medium pour in a tulip glass.
Poured copper with a whiteish fizzy quickly diminishing head.
Smelt of pumpkin pie! Mostly cinnamon, some cloves and pumpkin.
Taste was upfront cinnamon with a light pumpkin sweetness, followed by the moderate cloves taste and some nutmeg, with a tinge of pumpkin sweetness, on a medium length finish that finishes with light spice aromas and an awkwardly bitter aftertaste, like pumpkin rinds/skins. Mouthfeel was light to medium bodied, fizzy, slightly dry and some moderate/harsh astringency.
Overall, the aroma is wonderful, the flavor is almost there, but the harsh bitter finish leaves you afraid to take another sip. jeffwilliams11 (310) - hooterville, Michigan, USA - OCT 5, 2008
tap at hopcat. tastes like moms pumpkin pie, fermented and poured in a glass. lots of spices come through in the aroma and flavor, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg. pumpkin flavor in the background. not my favorite style, but pretty good. pauliefrog99 (302) - FLINT, Michigan, USA - NOV 16, 2002
No head in the pour. Pumpkin aroma. Not much hops.Pumpkin and ginger taste comes on strong. It was a good spiced ale. zug4abby (288) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 21, 2006
Bottle shared by DarkElf! Pours a clear orangey color with a medium head and lots of lacing. Super yummy cinammon and nutmeg aroma with warm pumpkin hitting the nose (almost makes me wish for a piece of pumpkin pie). Flavor is absolutely delicious like pumpkin pie with lots of dry cinammon hints. Definitely the best pumpkin ale i’ve ever had! Very smooth and dry. Thanks again Stephen, this beer rocked!! darkerdabetter (255) - Michigan, USA - OCT 21, 2004
The one I had this week directly from the brewery was called Screamin Pumpkin Spiced Ale and it was the best of this type that I’ve had. Tried it from the tap and bottled and both were excellent. Not overpowering as some of the others are. It is well balanced, both in aroma and flavor. I’ll have this again.

On tap at CK Diggs in Troy, MI. Good flavor with a lot of spice and cinnamon. An amber colored beer. Probably not a beer that you could guzzle all night, though.
I guess I always expect a lot from these pumpkin ales and I’ve never really had one that meets my expectations...this one comes close, though. sleestak (226) - Williamston, Michigan, USA - OCT 12, 2008
On tap at Old Chicago. Really underrated pumpkin beer from one of Michigan’s most mediocre brewers. Pours a murky orange with a small white head. Aroma is a spice bomb with allspice and nutmeg dominant. Taste is similarly spicy with vanilla undertones all built on a moderately sweet, understated pumpkin base. Finish is much more pleasant than that of other pumpkin seasonals. Nice surprise all around! Dezzilu (226) - Whitmore Lake, Michigan, USA - OCT 28, 2008
Finally, someone gets a pumpkin beer right! I have tasted sooooooooo many mediocre Halloween beers this season, I was almost ready to cry. Nice auburn color with a wickedly sweet pumpkin aroma that reminder me of a bakery that had just pulled pies from the oven. The taste is nice in the mouth and the throat, not overpowering but the flavor of pumpkin does show through clearly. Not an awesome beer, but one that is true to the design. I wouldn’t expect more from a pumpkin beer Boo, cheers! yumyum (221) - barrie, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 11, 2011
this is liquid pumpkin pie, on the nose and in the taste. Very easy drinking, nice palate. Overall well crafted but obviously somewhat one dimensional. It is a nice representaion of the syle. fear025 (214) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - MAR 1, 2011
Aroma:Smells a little spicy.
Appearance:Orange, good head.
Taste:The foretaste is sweet, spicy, and delicious. Very quickly the taste turns a little acrid in the midtaste. It’s like the sweetness leaves the room and all you have left is some harsh spice flavor.
Mouthfeel:This beer has a light body, and good carbonation.
Drinkability:This pumpkin ale makes the same mistake that a lot of these do, and just spices it up too much, overblown.
