Another long time want provided by Mike. I can’t think of another stout that I’ve wanted to try more than this. In typical Midnight Sun fashion, Sloth pours pitch black with a small amount of cocoa colored head. Nose is a balance of chocolate and tannins. A good amount of red wine still comes through actually. Flavor is cocoa, red wine, and oak. Mouthfeel is thick and slightly oily, a little thin for MS, light carbonation, and a long finish. Reminds me a lot of Bar Fly actually. It doesn’t have much of the Belgian character I thought it would, but that doesn’t detract from the beer. Solid imperial stout.
UPDATED: JUL 6, 2017 Wow, three ratings this year (2017) and they,re probably a bit forgiving. Large brown head, fair retention, skimpy lace. Black colored brew. Nose is bland with chocolate, slight booze. Body is full, too coating, buries yer palate. Chocolate, faint roast, soy sauce, whisky, fairly SOP and frigin boring. finish, fuck the finish. erp. The original batch must of been AMAZING!!! doubt it. Thanks to furthur for the trade! Clownoisseur (487) - Buchanan, Michigan, USA - MAY 23, 2017
Bottle via trade, thanks Kevin! Pours an oily dark brown, near black. Foamy head, large bubbles that fade to a half ring. Oily in appearance, slightly translucent hues of brown. Aromas of dark fruits, licorice, light oak/bourbon, light Belgian esters with banana and coriander. Taste follows the nose with a chocolate covered cherry note. Plums, raisins, licorice, hint of soy. Oak/bourbon is light, non-abrasive. Light roast, light smoke and light vanilla. Definitely on the sweet side. Solid beer, but not one I would come back to probably. Personal taste. Midnight sun pour with a tightly packed latte head. Small, medium, and large bubbles percolating and then exploding at the surface. Dark roasted chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon. A bit of raisin, oak, toasted coconut, hint of soy and black licorice, vanilla, and cocoa. Can only imagine what a game changer this was in 2007. Still delicious today. Bottle 0.65l from Harry’s Hofbrau Redwood City: pours oily black, opaque with stable light brown creamy head, which transforms itself to a ring around a glass. Aroma-flavors: roasted grain, dark malts, wirh notes of coffe, cacao dark chocolate, vanilla, molasses, vanillin, red wine, port wine, bourbon, dark fruits esters... Slightly astringent dry finish, full body, smooth texture, low carbonation. When it warms up it become truly world-class beer. Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - NOV 7, 2016

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate dark chocolate, light vanilla, coconut, dark fruits, roast, bourbon, and a touch of anise. It pours a dark brown, virtually black, with no transparency and a one finger tan head that fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. There is some thin webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate and light roasted malt. There are some light dark fruits in the middle. The finish has light-moderate espresso, light brunt notes, coconut, and mild bourbon. It?s full bodied with light-moderate carbonation.

650 mL bottle. Black body with a medium khaki head. Smells of heavy roasted malt. A little bourbon. Oak. Dark fruits. Taste is very sharp. Lots of dark fruit. Heavy roasted malt. Sharp dark fruit. Bitter and acrid finish. High carbonation. Not really getting the hype here. RRistow12 (944) - Lewis Center, Ohio, USA - OCT 8, 2016
Tasted from bottle. Pours black with thick khaki head. Aroma is bourbon, cocoa, caramel. Taste is mildly bitter with moderate sweetness. Flavors of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, caramel, toffee. Really don't get much if any of the Belgian yeast notes. Overall very well done.

Big vanilla whiskey coconut treacle marshamallow. Almost all about the barrel, but as the abv is under control - that’s not a bad thing. Smooth, warming - a treat.
