4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep black body, large dark chocolaty brown head, spotty lacing. Nose is complex with bourbon, vanilla, oak, molasses, chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, and tobacco. Flavor is similarly deep...impressively so. An abundance of semi-sweet malts: chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, and molasses. And plenty of pleasant bourbon barrel note. Full bodied, smooth carbonation, slick on the tongue, surprisingly mellow heat. I was not expecting this to be this good.
Bomber - nice dark pour with a thin tan head. Maple syrup aroma and taste. Light bourbon. Thinner body that I had imagined but still good. dwyerpg (6180) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - MAR 5, 2017
Absolutely delicious, this is aptly described as both vicious and viscous. Best sipped, this beer is thick but flavorful, chocolate, a hint of anise maybe. Really outstanding beer. tmoreau (4363) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - FEB 22, 2017
Shared bomber poured to snifters, displaying a black/brown hue, with dark, brownish tan head froth, and foamy spots of lacing. The nose was roasted & cocoa, followed by a plethora of notes that add to the complexity as toffee, dark caramel, maple, treacle, dark fruit, and some port/vinous character. Ditto on the flavor, full bodied, with soft carbonation, roasted, earthy, and slightly tannic bitterness, amped, boozy warmth, and a very dry finish. Hearty Quad/Imperial Stout. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Nice! User134089 (1644) - - JAN 24, 2017

Picked this up with basically a $50 gift certificate for my birthday. Had heard of Midnight Sun and saw on one of the emails that they had a few coming in, so I pounced on this and the Arctic Devil Barley Wine. $19.99 (Berserker) and $17.99 (AD) seems a bit much but I got the anyway. Show me I’m wrong.
Poured a pitch black color with 1-to-2 fingers of frothy tan head. Calm, serene setting underneath the top. Average lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled a big boozy mix of bourbon and maple syrup. Also some chewy molasses in there, probably making it seem boozier than it is. Getting that molasses after the bourbon and maple syrup, but that bourbon kind of dies off. Also earthy leather, port red wine barrels, dates, vanilla, toasted oak, hints of coconut and dark caramel. Not as good as I thought it would be, but still appetizing. (Smell - 4.00)
Initial taste had me thinking it wasn’t quite an imperial stout, but then it smoothed out and I felt it warm all the way down my body. A lot of different flavors pulling at each other, getting in order smoky molasses, port wine, oaky bourbon, vanilla, earthy leather and tobacco. Getting less maple syrup than the nose and more port wine. Either way it’s sugary sweet. Also dates, figs, raisins, overripe plum, dark caramel, toffee and toasted coconut. Really feeling the alcohol, warming up the body rather quickly. This is complex. (Taste - 4.25)
Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, semi-smoky, warming finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This was a different imperial stout for sure. Liked it overall, but I feel like I overrated it just a bid. (Overall - 4.25)

Bomber, 2016 vintage, thanks Craig! Sweet dark fruit aroma with lovely notes of bourbon, tobacco, vanilla, maple and a bit of roasted malt and chocolate. Pours inky black with a thin caramel brown head that has poor retention but a little bit of lace. Starts with sweet dark fruit and maple syrup flavors with a bit of tobacco and roasted malt as well as rich, full body and slick, viscous mouthfeel. Finishes impeccably smooth wonderful bourbon, vanilla, oak and light chocolate as well. Some warming booze is present, but feels like a warm hug. Absolutely fantastic! Bottle share. Dull pour, flat and oily, small ring of brown head. Aroma.a is harsh and wooden. Taste smoothes out a little, Dirty, earthy, peaty, a bit of alcohol warmth, bitter at the tail. Salvages itself after a questionable start. jgb9348 (6249) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - DEC 26, 2016
Pitch black, fully opaque coloured body with an oily head and a very thin, half centimetre tall rich brown head. Aroma of rich roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, earth, raisins, prunes, molasses, maple, licorice and alcohol - very strong and rich, just in the aroma! Full-bodied; Super rich malty flavour with alcohol, maple, licorice, chocolate, coffee, earth, toffee caramel and a lot of complexity from pit fruits and sugars with a lot of bourbon and oaky notes noticeable. Aftertaste is insanely rich and flavourful with some strong complexities, but a relatively easy to drink and well hidden alcohol beer for the style, if that is possible at all for a double-digit beer. Overall, definitely worth sampling if you can find it, I’m glad I kept mine around for a while - it surely helped round out the edges by having it age a bit. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Portland (Pearl), Oregon on 04-May-2015 for US$15,99 sampled at home in Washington on Christmas Day, 25-December-2016.
