COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Spending seven months in an oak bourbon barrel beautifully develops this dark strong ale’s complexity. Dark chocolate and hints of wood in the nose introduce a palate of bourbon and sweet raisins. At 11% abv, Oak-Aged Monk’s Mistress delivers untamed strength in character and purpose.

Bottle from the AK hook up himself. Pours a murky brown color with a medium off-white head. A big bourbon nose. Rich layers of vanilla sweet bourbon, leather, toffee, berries. Damn good. Huge improvement in the barrel.

Bottle shared by AKFaust. Colour...dark brown with no head. Nose...quite Bourbony and oaky with prunes, dried currants and dates. Palate...sweet, fruity and oaky with cherry cordials and burnt biscuits. The mid palate is dry and fairly boozy and the finish is long and tannic. This is good stuff but it doesn’t taste like the Mistress in its original incarnation.

Bomber. Murky dark brown. Aroma is really boozy, oak and whiskey. Taste is a lot of sweetness, Belgian candied sugar.

Bottle at home. Pours opaque dark brown with a medium, creamy tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is brown sugar, Bourbon, oak, vanilla, figs, heavy bready malt, light earthy hops, dates and raisins. Flavor is sweet caramel and bready malt, lightly tart figs and raisins, faint earthy hops and light bitterness, brown sugar, oak, vanilla, and Bourbon with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Bottle @ 10K + OT. Thanks, GT. Opens with no sound and is flat as can be. Just about black, maybe very dark brown, in color. No head. Bourbon, vanilla, and roasted malt on the nose. A hint of maple, some raisin, chocolate, and licorice as well. Really slick and flat on the tongue. Sweet burnt sugar, vanilla, and bourbon. Some tart raisin and a bit of licorice. Bitter dark chocolate...quite oxidized. Some cardboard coming through.

>> Thank you Ira for this one! Cap comes off with no hiss and almost no pressure, loose? Pours is totally flat, deep red brown. Nose is tomato bourbon, vanilla, fudge. Taste is totally dead, paper, tomato, mild chocolate. Lifeless, flat body. Sad face.

>!< flat, oxidized, paper

22oz bomber courtesy of SHIG, thanks Shawn. It pours with a deep mahogany body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers up caramel, spicy winter holiday cookies, spicy Belgian yeast, marshmallow and then a nectar like sort of molasses sweet richness in the background. The taste delivers rich smooth notes that are balanced. Yum. I get molasses, caramel, rich prune candy, brown sugar, sweet cherry reduction and a marshmallow note where subtle smooth candy like bourbon is well off in the background. Wow! This all goes together seamlessly. Rich lovely. Wow!

Ibrew2or3 pulls this gem outta the blue! Wow. I had this one my wants list and gave up on it. Pours a dark brown color with a tannish head. Lots of fruit, dried fruit, port, bourbon, toasted oak, this has held up well. Nice one!

savnac (2391) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - SEP 17, 2013
22oz bottle. Murky dark brown with absolutely no head. Aroma is strong bourbon with toffee, dark fruity, oak and alcohol. Flavor is boozy bourbon, dried cherries, sweet caramel, alcohol and oak. Medium to full body with no carbonation, pretty much completely flat. Would be a nice beer but the lack of carbonation ruins if for me.

Bottle: #235 Alaskan brewed beer rating, finally after 16 month I’ve finally tied for third. Pours a thick chocolate brown with a whispery head that disappears. Strong bourbon nose that lingers. Lots of dark fruit with wood and bourbon hints. Finish is malty and strong alcohol warming.
