Draft: Poured a thick black sludge with light brown head. Soft hops, rich malts and mild coffee. Taste was nice mix of chocolate malts and coffee bean, the hops have melded well over the years providing a nice bitter touch. ngeunit1 (1555) - Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - APR 28, 2013

Tap at City Beer SF. Great nose of dried dark fruit, soy, dark roasted malt. Dark with oily head. Taste falls flat and doesn’t deliver on the nose. Is it the age? DTM (798) - Winters, California, USA - JUN 23, 2012
On tap at City Beer in San Francisco. Poured almost black and had a burnt, nutty aroma. It was very bitter more my taste. Hints of chocolate and had a dry finish. Solid brew, just not really my style. DYCSoccer17 (3691) - Woodland, California, USA - JUN 18, 2012
7 ounce pour from City Beer Store. The aroma on this is super burnt, with significant toasted and roasted maktiness. Quite ashy. A little too ashy with too much anise present. Opaque black body with a medium light tan head present and some solid lacing. The beer starts dry, roasted, bitter, and ashy. Light chocolates notes are present in the middle, before this finishes bitter, dry, and with more ashiness. Quite astringent and super dry for my palate. Not a huge fan of this. Excellent! A year’s cellaring has only improved the harmony and
balance, with lots of deep, subtle flavours. (0.65l bottle, City
Beer, San Francisco.)
