Pitch black color, dark brown color. Tons of bourbon, molasses, maple syrup. The mouth is very full, sweet, rich maple, molasses, truffles, bourbon, tounge numbing, dark fruit in te mouth. Really warming finish, with lingering truffles, molasses and maple finish. Big beer, very complex. Oakes (18472) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 20, 2014
Pretty close to black...on 2nd runnings? Wow. Milk chocolate, and Malted milk aroma. Sweet, malted milk, touch of chocolate and sweet finish. klm1 (1780) - Bled/SF, - MAR 5, 2016
From City beer store SF:
Pours black color, clear, with unstable light brown head, which immediately transforms itself to a ring around the glass. Visually low carbonation. Aroma: very, very fresh fruity aroma, which takes on blueberry, plums, prunes, resins, with dark malts, which takes on coffee, dark and milk chocolate, hint of honey, vanilla, oak, toffee, yoghurt...
Similar is flavor: very intense, with notes of espresso coffee, cocoa nibs, cocoa powder, hint of dark chocolate, supported with hop flavors, which takes on dark fruits, which I mentioned yet before.
Finish is sticky dry. Body is medium, texture silky soft, carbonation is low. tia (2228) - Sandston, Virginia, USA - SEP 21, 2016
Bottle from Brown Jug Fairbanks. Almost black with tan head. Smells of dark fruit and dark bread and chocolate. Flavor is roasty, dark chocolaty, and dry. drpimento (3726) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 6, 2017
Impressive that this is small beer from the second Runnings of their Imperial Stout. A good salad traditional Stout. Nothing special or remarkable just solid.

Had this on tap at Midnight Sun about a year ago and forgot to rate it. Colour... essentially black with a thin tan head. Nose...dark chocolate, anise and vanillin. Palate...whoa! This is one velvety beer! Thick and creamy with plenty of roasty goodness, burnt caramel, wet earth, anise extract, maduro cigar and plenty of booze on the finish, esp. for only 8% ABV. This is a small beer?? I’d say that this is a GIANT among small beers! BrewDad (5328) - Olympia, Washington, USA - APR 1, 2012
Dark black in color, clear with a thin head. Huge dark roast malt and light hops aroma. Nice flavor and smooth taste. This comes in at a light 8% but it is terrific. Being a second run this was a very tasty warm brew, marcus (10560) - Sacramento, California, USA - NOV 7, 2014
On tap at Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours Dark brown with a rich tan head and a chocolate aroma. There is a smooth chocolate and dark molasses flavor with a dry finish. Very tasty, especially for a "small" beer. slowrunner77 (12581) - Reno, Nevada, USA - NOV 12, 2014
Nice. Nitro at Capitol Tap Room. Still has the chocolate and molasses and light barrel going on. Less sweet and obviously less body and abv, but VERY nice for a small beer. Super smooth and tasty. bytemesis (8970) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - DEC 24, 2014
Bottle. Pours dark black with a medium to large creamy tan head, slow to dissipate and nice lacing. Aroma is very roasty, chocolate and vanilla. Not really getting maple. Flavor is light sweet and medium bitter, nice and roasty, cocoa notes, a touch of smokiness. Body is a bit light and watery, but otherwise an excellent stout.
