dark brown nearly black with a spotty plae beige head.
this smells like a stick of chalk?... along with other notes of dank skunky hops, licorice, fennel seed, ash and herbals.
there is a flavor in here that tastes the way nylon carpet smells?... and some savory yeast action, chalk, cocoa, pine, wood, grain (but no malt sweetness) and numbing hops on the finish.
it is very dry and highly drinkable. 7/4/7/3/14/3.5 mar (5457) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 1, 2010

The beer pours a dark brown color with a light brown head. The aroma is resiny hops along with roasted malt and oak. The flavor is caramel malt with some resiny and piney hops. You also get some chocolate and oaked notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. SuzyGreenberg (1604) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 16, 2010
22 oz. bomber; brought back from GABBF for another crack at it; clear, roasty brown with huge cramy dark brown head; grassy, earthy hops with oranges and chocolate; dry, creamy bitterness in the finish with a healthy dose of roast to round it out; remains a hop forward beer though with lots of pine, ash, creamy fruit and big time bitterness; a very dank brew with plenty of body to withstand the hops; the oak is very minor, but I think it has helped the smoothness here; an almost perfect combination of chocolate and hops IMO without being too roasty; nice and spicy; dank shit indeed; slight edge to the non-oaked version IMO

22 oz. bottle; thanks Frank!! pours dense black with thick tan head; rich, hoppy and lots of chocolate roast on the nose; milky, earthy and very dank; dry finish, vanilla, nuts and ashy; perfectly dry and smooth; hot damn this was tasty
Bottle thanks to Ben. Pours near black (opaque dark brown around the edges) with a nice light brown head that laces a bit. Aroma has a nice combination of darker malts and a nice pine hop character with a slight note of oak underlying. Flavor begins with a smooth with a sweet grain flavor but the hops quickly take over with a pine flavor and a malt undertone. BMan1113VR (7930) - Los Angeles, California, USA - APR 10, 2010
Bottle thanks to americanbrew. Pours with a large, off-white head and a deep brown body. Aroma of oak, chocolate, hops, cinnamon. Taste is dark roast, bitter, chocolate, sap, pine, nutshells. Fizzy but a creamy mouthfeel. Really, I think I like the regular version better,
