COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
OK, what do you get when we toss pale malted barley, pumpkin and spices into a stainless steel cauldron then stir in some magic? Uh, Trickster! The magic is actually mischievous Belgian yeast at play with cardamom, nutmeg and coriander. This spooky cool brew will make your glass glow bright despite the gloominess of the season.

Designed to conjure up a little fun during the darkening days of autumn, Trickster is a frivolous concoction of earthy pumpkin, comforting malt, and lively spices. This makes Trickster the brew to accompany your post-winterizing duties, family fall dinners, ghost stories, U-boast-iT stories, and supposedly haunted garage parties.

But the flavor range of Trickster also pairs well with citrusy and/or spicy cuisine. Try a glowing glass with your favorite dishes that incorporate nutmeg, cardamom or corianderlike Thai curries, Swedish meatballs, gingerbreador seek out new recipes on the web. The possibilities are endless. Unfortunately our Trickster supply will end soon. Get it and enjoy it now!

Bottle. Colour... dark gold with no head. Nose... kind of funky but with the customary pumpkin pie spices. Palate... mild CO2, then theres that funk again! Not sure what to make of that funk. Its not necessarily bad; just not what I expected. I guess Id say theres a saison-like aspect to this one with a somewhat citrusy-fruity note to go along with the spice and pumpkin. In general though, Im not a fan of this offering from MSBC. There is a rather vegetal (no pun intended given the gourd aspect) watery character to this one that just isnt sitting well with me. Think Ill stick to the oh-so-fabulous-and-magnificent T.R.E.A.T!

Bottle from Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours light amber with a rich off-white head and a spicy pumpkin aroma. There is a rather harsh vegetable flavor with a mix of spices and a noticeable yeast presence.

Draft at the brewery. Orange-gold with a small white head. Belgian yeast and spices on the aroma. The flavor is mildly sweet and rather belgian with notes of coriander, ginger, and caramel. Not much pumpkin, maybe a little. Medium body and carbonation. A little underwhelming, but still good.

Bottle: The aroma consists of ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, light pumpkin, and apple. It pours a hazy amber with a two finger off-white head that eventually fades to a thick film. There is some sporadic webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of caramel. The finish has light ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and apple. Its light-medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation.

UPDATED: NOV 18, 2009 Bomber. Clear amber color with a small head. Aroma of belgian clovey-banana yeast and some light sugar type malt. The spices are there but lighter and Id be hard pressed to identify them over the spicy yeast. I dont get any pumpkin.
I was kind of hoping for more out of this. The description sounded a bit like Iron Hills Ichabod, which I enjoyed very much.
But its their first year for this beer. Maybe theyll make some adjustments in the future?

Bottle shared by BrianK. Man, these guys have gone down hill. Pumpkin spice, very vegetal, zucchini, white pepper aroma. Prickly body, harsh, a bit thin. Sweet, unfermented malts in the finish. Bleh.

Thanks to BrianK. Poured a mostly clear copper with a white head. Yeasty spice aroma with light cinnamon and squashy. Semi-sweet caramel flavor with spices mixed through. Sweet finish.
