OK, what do you get when we toss pale malted barley, pumpkin and spices into a stainless steel cauldron then stir in some magic? Uh, Trickster! The “magic” is actually mischievous Belgian yeast at play with cardamom, nutmeg and coriander. This spooky cool brew will make your glass glow bright despite the gloominess of the season.

Designed to conjure up a little fun during the darkening days of autumn, Trickster is a frivolous concoction of earthy pumpkin, comforting malt, and lively spices. This makes Trickster the brew to accompany your post-winterizing duties, family fall dinners, ghost stories, U-boast-iT stories, and “supposedly haunted” garage parties.

But the flavor range of Trickster also pairs well with citrusy and/or spicy cuisine. Try a glowing glass with your favorite dishes that incorporate nutmeg, cardamom or coriander—like Thai curries, Swedish meatballs, gingerbread…or seek out new recipes on the web. The possibilities are endless. Unfortunately our Trickster supply will end soon. Get it and enjoy it now!

Appearance: Pours copper with a white ring around the top.

Aroma: Sweet malt, candi sugar, clove, banana.

Taste: Dry malt, spicy hops, toasted pumpkin, clove, candi sugar.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Spicy dry carbonation.

Overall: A decent Belgian, but if you were expecting a pumpkin beer, you will be disappointed as the pumpin is very subtle.

November 12th, 2014 - Midnight Sun’s contribution to the national, annual fever for pumpkin beers shines above the rest, rising from the mountain of labels dotted and smeared with pumpkins and pumpkin heads by its brilliant blend, balance and buoyancy. Cinnamon in color, the head is thin on top, but forms beautiful frescoes of webbing and popped bubbles on the interior of the glass. The aroma is a wonderfully balanced pumpkin smell, sitting in that sweet spot between pumpkin spices and roasted vegetal notes. And the taste is even better, a perfect palate for a pumpkin beer, giving much needed carbonation to the pumpkin juice, and weight to let the flavors be taken seriously. The acidity is notably brighter on this compared to other pumpkin beers, which helps to lift up some of the heft of both the pumpkin and spice tastes.

Bottle from Cable. Pours out a decent muddy orangy color with a small white head. Aroma is of some pumpkin spice, some Belgian, yeast, carrot cake, light sweetness. Taste is some strange vegetal notes, Belgian yeast, pumpkin spice, caramel, sweet toast.

Bottle. Gold with thin off white head. Tons of spice, largely nutmeg and clove, don’t get much pumpkin actually. Medium mouthfeel. Can’t really put my finger on it but I find this beer very off-putting.

Bottle. Copper with orange. A lot of fall spices like nutmeg and clove. Solid, but forgettable. Nothing special. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ 10 East - Aroma - subtle pumpkin pie spices, peppery, medium toasted malts and graham crackers. Appearance - clear, amber body, off white airy head, minimal retention. Flavor - doesn’t seem like a pumpkin inspired/infused beer, but rather like a pale Belgian ale/witbier combo. Lots of veggie flavor found with the prominent Belgian yest. Overall - a nice beer to have during the fall weather. Pales in comparison to some of the great pumpkin beers.

Pours a hazy copper-orange with an off-white head and lacing. It has a nice aroma of biscuit, coriander, and cinnamon, with a flavor that is spices and malt up front with a bread and pumpkin backbone and finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark rusty orange color with a nice creamy head. Nose is spicy with nutmeg and pumpkin. Taste is sweet with fall spices with strong nutmeg and pumpkin. Finish is dry and spicy with a mouthful of yeast in the end. Nice . quaff score 7 / 10
