Clear dark amber brew with a small off-white head that lasts long. Aroma is malty, with some presence of ripe fruits, some oak as well and some slight alcohol. Hoppy notes as well. Realy nice nose. Taste is syrupy sweet with a clear touch of its aroma. Pretty autumn-like if you ask me with clear notes of the fruits and the hops. Some caramel, raisins, honey, oak as well with a nice grassy bitterish and warming end which has some dryish notes in it, despite being largely sweet. Truly an interesting aspect of this enjoyable, tasty rich brew. Full bodied, mouthfeel is pretty sticky and syrupy. Carbonation is quite low. Beautiful deep, well-balanced brew that is tasty in every way. Good sipper for the darker days of the year. Has some great ageing potential as well, which I will definitely do with a next bottle. ston3s42 (234) - - APR 22, 2015

Red-amber color. Nice caramel and malt aroma, mature, with cookies. Very rich malt flavor, good body, caramel flavor too, sweet; good bitterness, good hopping, nice ending warmth. Medium complexity, but extremely enjoyable.
@CPH BeerFest2010. Slightly hazy rubyish brown colour with a small off-white fluffy head. Aroma is caramel malts, alcohol, raisins, some mild vanilla as well as some fudge and mild fruityness. Flavour is quite much the same in a nice balance. Pleasant. olsvammel (7226) - Örebro, SWEDEN - OCT 8, 2010
Draught at SBWF 2010 (Elixir Wine). It poured a hazy amber liquid with a small white head. This is a well balanced Barley Wine, with a thick malty body and nice sweetness.

Bottled at Carlsens Kvarter, Odense. Hazy mahogany colour, lasting head. Malty bready nose. Sweet with some some strawberry esters, full bodied with lovely deep malt character. Very English style barle ywine, where rich deep malt by far outweighs hops. Mildy warming finish. Lovely! tfredvik (1948) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 13, 2013
For some reason I’ve hardly had any barley wines since I started my ratebeer career, i.e. I’ve hardly had any barley wines whatsoever. If this one is representative for the style however, I’m looking forward to explore this type of beer in meticulous detail! The off-white, frothy head is a bit small and it ends up as a ring of ever-lasting bubbles at the walls of the glass, plus some filmy remnants that are partially covering the beautiful, clear, dark amber to red body. The strong aroma is malty, hoppy and sugary sweet with some nice notes of overripe fruits, faint dried dark fruits. It smells vinous, with notes of port wine. The taste is very, very sweet, and even if the long-lasting finish is moderate to heavy bitter it’s not quite enough to tame the massive sweetness. Strong flavours of overripe grapefruit and other fruits, sweet sweet caramel (Smørbukk), toffee, vanilla and faint dried dark fruits. Wonderful mouthfeel, it’s smooth and creamy, softly carbonated with tiny bubbles and the body is full. An amazing beer, that I probably would have liked even better if it was a bit less sweet or a bit more bitter.Foffern (1909) - Bodø, NORWAY - JUL 7, 2015
[50 cl bottle, enjoyed 10 months before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Storo, Oslo]
Bottle at home. Three year old bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark orange color with a small beige head that fades fast. Compact aroma of liqueur, caramel, leather, oak, marzipan, dried apricot and some alcohol. The flavor is sweet and powerful, similar but with more toffee, liqueur, oak and brown sugar. Full-bodied, silky mouth feel, and has a light bitterness. A heavy, complex and sweet BW. TyggaBrown (430) - NORWAY - OCT 21, 2013
This is great beer, but to be honest I really think some of the barleys from Norway are a lot better. This one really smells of alcohol, more than I’ve experienced before, as well as plums, dark grapes, heavy bitterness, great level of sweetness, and caramel, cocoa and coffee. Great, and well balanced, but not as full bodied and balanced as the best ones. Benzai (15625) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - OCT 24, 2013
Bottle shared by Joes @ weekly tasting. Hazy reddish color, small off - white head. Smell malts, sweetness and alcohol. Taste malts, alcohol, some sweetness, slightly winey. Medium to full body, medium carbonation.
