Bottle, pours hazy light brown with large off white head..... the nose is barley, malt, caramel, fruits.... the flavor is sweet, barley, alcohol, caramel, brown sugar.... full body... nice creamy mouthful.... sweet sugary finish..... a little to sweet for me.... but an very nice barley wine..... stunetii (90) - Bergen, NORWAY, NORWAY - AUG 14, 2011
Overall, this was an excellent beer, and I can see it being paired with vanilla ice cream or lamb as a main course. Pours with a cloudy mahogany color, culminating in a medium-sized tan head that disappears quite quickly. Not a tremendous amount of lacing with this one. The nose was sweet: caramel, butter, dark fruits – very sugary. The mouth feel was syrupy and the flavor was wonderfully sweet, much like the nose, and with a distinct alcohol taste. I will certainly try this one again. Would certainly try it again. TheJestersBeer (2430) - SWEDEN - DEC 30, 2012
Sweet, full bodied, medium to high bitterness.
Rich, complex taste, malt, caramel, vanilla (?), hops, apricot, marzipan. Long, rich finish. (2009-08-18)

Amber with an off white head - sweet malt aromas that are very good - nice sweet malt body with some caramel and some alcohol heat in a very nice way - lingering maltyness in the finish with some caramel and a nice heat from alcohol - this was very good Rastacouere (6177) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 11, 2013
Terracotta pour, clear, yet quite sedimented at the bottom, covered by a quickly fading head. Highly aromatic, very English aroma where vibrant fruity esters poke the rich biscuity, caramelly, honeyed, toffee laden, sweet yet satisfyingly balanced toasted maltiness. Brightly extracted malt flavours quickly bring that ale to sweetness levels that are beyong my usual preferences. Its almost intense fruitiness, of an almost juicy nature, especially taking into account the very soft, almost timid carbonation, acts as a counterbalance to the malt’s sweetness, bringing the focus to a vinous territory, one of a dessert wine, perhaps, but one where ample, chewy texture never feels quite syrupy and minimal, tea-like hops, maintain the focus with eloquence. Broad fruit range covered here: plum, peach, white grape ans strawberry: a fruit salad amid a strong cerealic foundation. Staying two-dimensional throughout - fruit and caramelly malts - but doing it with conviction and no abuse. Surprisingly very impressive to me.

(50 cl.
500ml bottle from IPB.nilsas (4303) - Bryne, NORWAY - AUG 18, 2013
Appearance : Deep amber with medium foamy head.
Aroma : Rich caramel with rich piny and herbal hops. Light resinous notes. Great malty caramel. Toffee.
Taste : Caramel with herbal and piny hops. Not very heavy on the piny. Finish caramel and herbal hops, light resinous and piny notes. Fairly persistent caramel on the finish with light hops and light alcohol. Some toffee on the late finish.
Palate : Moderate carbonation. Maybe a bit on the high side for the style.
Overall : Really nice example of the style. Nothing fancy but very well executed. I really enjoy the balance between hops and malt. The malt is quite nice and the hops are not taking too much space in the profile. A very elegant barley wine.

Disig gyllen farve med tynt lyst skum. Lukt av malt og honning. Smak av søt honning, karamell, røyk og frukt. Cardinal. TyggaBrown (430) - NORWAY - OCT 21, 2013
This is great beer, but to be honest I really think some of the barleys from Norway are a lot better. This one really smells of alcohol, more than I’ve experienced before, as well as plums, dark grapes, heavy bitterness, great level of sweetness, and caramel, cocoa and coffee. Great, and well balanced, but not as full bodied and balanced as the best ones.
