COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

About 100ml poured from a bottle. Ring around the rim of the glass atop of a deep, dark amber body. Vinous aroma of dried fruits. Jam-like flavour with raisin, apricot and other dried fruits joined by sweet dark malts. Dry warming alcohol. Well bodied. Should be a great sipper. Very sweet, though (CBF, 06.05.2010).

Medium beige head. Deep dark red body. Syrupy fruity papery aroma with floral caramel and earth notes. Dry-sweet earthy floral fruity taste with roasty sherry and paper notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, faintly hot mouthfeel. Dry earthy fruity wild berry aftertaste with toffee floral musty notes. There are also smoky ash notes. It’s fairly sweet. Delicate, harmonic, and subtle, but slightly unfresh and musty. Still a great beer. (0.5l bottle, Fish and Beer, Copenhagen.)

(Bottle, BBE 21-01-2012, at Mallaskukko, Turku) Aroma combined dark fruits and malts nicely. Alcohol forced its way through, too, but not too intensely. Palate was really dry which made me think the beer might not be fresh - no problem with this style. Strong maltiness continued in the taste with some dried plum and medium bitterness and sweetness. For such a strong and heavy brew this was easy to drink and flavour remained nice all the time.

Bottle @BBF 2010. Highs: Strong sweet flavor (and I’m not a Barley Wine fan...). Lows: An odd scent in the nose, couldn’t quite place it and the sip overwhelmed anything there. Nice.

Bottle. Amber red, finger thick tanned head. Aroma of prunes, raisins and roasted malts. Very fruity indeed. Taste is same with tons of sweetness. Also light hints of chocolate. Almost like a dessert wine this. Finish is quite bitter with some interesting hops. Feel is quite sticky. A pretty good Barley Wine

Roodbruin bier met redelijke schuimkraag. Zoet, port, iets lekkerder en koolzuurhoudender dan de Barley Brew van Gourmet Bryghuset.

500 ml bottle courtesy of Jacob. Thanks. Best before 30-05-2014. Pours a dark amber color with a small off white head that slowly fades to a fine film. The aroma is soft and understated with sweet musty pears, filberts and maple. The taste is mostly sweet with saccharin pears, apples, frangelico and a touch of sherry. The palate is full and creamy with soft carbonation. Finishes long and sticky sweet. Overall: Fans of sweet barley wines will love this one, and it should age well for those holding an extra bottle in the cellar. I’d love to see what time would do to this one, its better than average now, but could turn out great with about five years on it.

Nose is full of sugary caramel with really mild hops. A small ring persists but nothing more. Mouthfeel is syrupy, treacle-like almost. Pretty sweet but not overly so, an honest bitterness cutting into it. Overall a nice english barleywine, can’t wait to try more from these guys!
