3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sweet fruity nose, pineapple, some guava or other tropical fruit. Very nice. Taste isnít really what I expected. This is definitely not an IPA. The body is quite thin but contains something sweet and caramelly, before quickly developing into a fairly bitter hoppy finish.

An excellent example of the Antipodean Pale Ale style. Spectacular passionfruit/grapefruit aroma is followed by a brilliantly balanced and tasty body.

Solid NZPA. I liked the look and smell of it, good flavour and balance. Really drinkable.

(On tap) Clear amber with good white head. Nice orange citrus aroma. Medium body with plentiful mouthfilling carbonation. Taste is hoppy - citrus hops and gentle caramel in the foretaste, full on hoppy bitterness in the finish. A good beer - but an amber, really? Pretty hoppy for that.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A nice pale ale that has good hops and a healthy dose of malts. Maybe a touch too much malt as the front palate is a little thin, but I am just nit-picking. Flavours are good and well structured.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cloudy amber. The aroma is fruity but a bit mushroomy like cheesy English hops. Quite bitter and fairly chewy, yet light in body.

Long story short, this is a hugely drinkable 7% abv beer. Very nice. Compared to the sparkling show ponies Iíve been drinking of late, this is quite an understated little number. The initial sensation when the beer enters my mouth is a slight pause of nothingness, kind of like the calm before the storm. And then the flavour kicks in, but it isnít a storm of flavour. Itís a solid, unpretentious flavour, and the only thing that makes this stand out among a dozen other similar beers is the hint of cream in the mouth feel at the finish. Again, very nice and Iíll definitely buy another bottle.

Big aromatics from the NZ hops, malt structure gives this beer a nice back bone. At 7% and with the high bitterness it's really more IPA by style. Minor oxidization present.

Bottled. An amber beer with a lazing off-white head. The aroma has notes of spicy hops, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of spicy hops, malt, caramel, and grass, leading to a bitter finish.

This ale was a bit of a bugger to enter. Not only was there a rather verbose blurb on the side of the bottle, but categorising this beer was bloody awful. It wasnít an American Strong Ale because it isnít American, it wasnít an English Strong Ale because it isnít English, it wasnít an IIPA because it doesnít claim to be so. I christen this an Amber Ale because it is first and foremost golden amber and secondly, it is Ale, so take my birthday off me if Iím wrong.
Thereís a slight greenish tinge to the cream coloured head and aromas of Coxís Orange Pippins, dehydrated guava, toffee apple and fruit leather. Further sniffs reveal more ripe fruits and tangerines. The taste (after a rush of tiny carbonation bubbles) is clearly of mellow autumnal fruit and a developing toffee brittle. There is a good length of bitterness which invites a second mouthful, which is what you want in beer of course. Alongside all of this is the niggly, naggly feeling that this could age rather well for a few months. I may just do that and get back to you.
