3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ml bottle. The beer is black and appears thick and dense. Small brown head, a bit fizzy. Big chocolate base with lots of dark malt sweetness. Molasses, toffee, caramel, vanilla, light coconut, coffee, clean roast. Mostly sweet milk chocolate with an undercurrent of coffee roast. The taste has that same huge sweet milk chocolate up front, even more intense than expected. However, as the beer develops, roast takes over more and more. Finish has a lot of roast. Light coffee throughout. Thick mouthfeel. This is a very big beer with a lot of flavor. Roast dominates a bit too much in the finish. The intensity of the chocolate and roast in the taste both sorta overpower some of the flavor that you can find in the aroma.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Sensoric. Pitch black with small to medium, thick, light brown/beige head. Poor head retention and average lacing. Nose is mainly roasted malts - milk chocolate, some cocoa nibs and lightly vanilla and raisins notes. Slightly peaty in the background. Unfortunately there is some booze noticeable. Taste is medium-sweet in the beginning and it becomes more bitter, harsh and semi-dry in the end. Full body, oily and thick texture, soft carbonation, finish is semi-dry, semi-bitter, cocoa and lightly ashy. In general very good RIS to start with some improvements and make it even better in the future. Very good balance between malty sweetness and roasted character, the high ABV content makes it very potent, but on the other hand the booze is hard to hide.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle, BBE 31.10.23, vertical with Nøgne’s Horizon Tokyo Black. Pours pitch black with a tiny brown head. Aroma of soy sauce, roasty malts, licorice and earthiness. Taste is sweet, salty and slightly roasty with loads of licorice, earthiness, soy sauce and syrup. Finish is heavy, sweet and syrupy with loads of soy sauce, licorice, some roastiness and earthy notes. Heavy and massive, quite different compared to the Nøgne version which has a lot more earthiness and stingy notes.
