Quack-Duck (9533) - Down South, GERMANY - JUL 27, 2015
bottle. Deep dark golden, small head. Brown sugar, coffee, toffee and bitter chocolate, not as bitter as expected, but quite dry.

Drank this very late; expiry date was 22/03/13. (Beer had a cork, and was stored in darkness) Poured dark and flat with lots of black liquorice and molasses on the nose. Very pungent. No sediment that I could see. Front: very sweet, fruity (blackberries), and black liquorice. Mid: a bit flat half-way through. End: Big finish. Smoky and oaky, leather, caramel, sherry. (no bitterness since I’d aged it for so long) Comments: the aging process definitely smoothed out the hops + bitterness. Very sweet.

was too expensive for what ends up being not as good a beer as the base (also too expensive). a sweet booziness replaces some of the hop aroma and flavor. unique, but a little odd and just not worth the coin.

Visual: Pours molasses brown with lots of suspended sediment, zero head, just a few countable larges bubbles around the perimeter; Not all that appetizing for a beer. Nose: smoked woody malty sweet brown sugar. (lvl-8)-pungency Attack: FLAT, incoming super sweetness Mid-palate: alcohol, (lvl-8)-sweetness, (MAIN) roasted coffee, malt, brown sugar, cacao nibs, oak, whiskey Finish: orange peel, lingering coffee bitterness + hops, malty sweet finish. Summary: Lots of flavour once you get past the fact that it is non-carbonated. The first few sips are discouragingly uneventful since one would expect a crisp bite when drinking a beers. About a third way through the buzz and (therefore) the character start to emerge. Many others are reporting a head so perhaps this was an expired bottle..? (BB 8/3/2013). Still it was corked. Tasting THIS bottle, it’s overly sweet and my least favourite so far of all Mikkeller’s plentiful offerings.

375ml bottle, hazy dark ruby hue, with some reddish highlights, and a small off-beige head. Strange Cepacol medicinal cough syrup, sweet toasted, caramelized, biscuity malt, honey, barley sugar, phenolic nose, with a light whisky, dried dark fruit note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a warmth. sweet alcoholic booziness, toasted, caramel, biscuity malt, soft earthy raw flowery leafy, resiny, grassy hop character, with a kind of whisky phenol, strong oak barrel, green molasses, medicinal herbs flavour, leading towards a warming, fruity, toasted, caramel maltiness, medicinal raw minty, leafy, grassy hop bittering finish.

375 ml bottle at home. Pours murcky deep reddish amber with a light beige head. Madeira nose with nuts and raisins, dry plums. Does not have the typical DIPA characteristics at all. Body is quite sweet and peated, bitterness only comes in the back. Slightly better than the straight 1000 IBU.

pentaz (1264) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUN 6, 2013
Bottle @ Mikkeller&Friends. Pours light hazy deep red/brown with a small creamy tan head. Aroma is quite malty, dark fruit, complex and layered caramel, chocolate, raisins, oak, iodine, dark toffee, light peat, brown sugar, pine and citrus. Taste is moderate+ sweet and light bitter. Body is light+, texture is sticky, carbonation is soft. Finishes sweet and warming with whisky and wood. Pretty hard to recognize the base-beer. Interesting to see how much time and barrel aging can change a beer. A nice treat.

janubio (923) - SPAIN - MAY 18, 2013
Sample of an out dated bottle and it’s noticeable, I think. Dark brown lour, with no head and no lace. Smell: At first I only noticed alcohol esters and acetone, then whiskey and chocolate. Very low carbonation and light body. Taste of whisky, chocolate and toffee. Not as bitter as aone could think. Guess i’ll try to get another one in good conditions, it’s interesting and it should be much better then.
